I'm from the southern U.S. and Mardi Gras (called "Carnival" in some countries) is a HUGE holiday for us. I thought it might be nice to have some traditional New Orleans Cajun food and then go for drinks to celebrate Mardi Gras in Melbourne.
Cajun Kitchen is a new casual restaurant (cheap) in Melbourne's CBD that serves traditional New Orleans food like po boys and gumbo. We can grab a quick dinner there and then head out for drinks.
I'll also bring a king cake, which is a traditional Mardi Gras dessert in New Orleans. (It's like a cinnamony cake, not too sweet.) An edible trinket is baked into it, and whoever gets the trinket in their slice gets good luck for a year!
Mardi Gras this year is on February 12, but I depart Melbourne on February 2 so would like to celebrate with y'all before I go :)
"Laissez les bons temps rouler" ~ "Let the good times roll" ~ Mardi Gras motto ;)
