Current Known Issues

Can't find your profile in the searcy? We are currently experiencing some major issues with our search systems (this includes the activity search). We are working hard on resolving them.

  • Group email notifications - Please unsubscribe from unwanted emails via the link on the bottom of each email or Edit your group notifications here
  • Can't find your Activity? - We received reports that some Activities don't show up in the "Nearby Activities" on the home dashboard and others don't even show up in the Activity search ... we are working on both issues.
  • Personalised folders in Contacts - There is a problem with filing contacts into new folders.

Here are the most common questions for that category. Just click on each issue to see the answer!

  1. I've received a spam message

Help us keep commercial or dating spam off of CouchSurfing by reporting it using our automated abuse prevention system.

    To use this button:
    1. View the message in your CS inbox.
    2. Look for the orange "Report!" button
    3. Click the button, and choose the best available description for why you're reporting the message.

By using this system, you help us zero in on people who are sending inappropriate messages.

In some cases, the person contacting you may simply be new the website and not understand our community. If it seems like an honest mistake, it can sometimes be nice to respond and remind them about CouchSurfing's community guidelines and Terms of Use.

Thank you for helping us keep CouchSurfing free of spam!

  2. I think I've spotted a scam

If you think you have found someone who is misusing CouchSurfing to take advantage of members, please contact us using the button below. Providing direct links to the group post, event, group, profile, or other piece of content you're reporting will help us take action more quickly.

For information about how to protect yourself from common internet scams, and possible scams specific to CouchSurfing, check this list.

  3. I need to report a member

You've come to the right place! However, we need specific information from you in order to be able to help you most efficiently.

Step One: Who? At the top of your message, please copy and paste a link to the profile of the other member you're contacting us about. We cannot proceed without this information.

Step Two: What? Following the profile link, briefly summarize the problem you are reporting. What is the problem? Did you have a face to face disagreement? Have they said something in a group post that you believe is against our Terms of Use?

Step Three: Give us supporting evidence. Is this a problem with a group post, or something on the CouchSurfing website? Groups can be vast, and it could be hard for us to find something. If it is a particular group post you are writing about, please click the "permalink" button at the top of every individual group post, and cut and paste that link from your browser into the question you are asking us. It will really help!

  4. I want a reference removed from my profile

CouchSurfing supports the right for members to tell their side of the story regarding their experiences with other members.

We have a few limitations regarding the removal of a reference that we need to inform you about prior to your asking about a reference removal: For starters, many references left are about things that happen between two members in a face to face setting. If we were not there, we do not know what happened exactly. Please understand that it doesn't mean we don't believe you, it means we simply may not take sides. We may only flag or remove a reference if it is not within our guidelines, which you can read here. If you would like for us to review a reference left by a member, please let us know which reference it is you want us to look at.

If we are able to flag a reference because it is not within our guidelines, the member who wrote it will have an opportunity to put the reference within the guidelines. If and when that happens, the reference will be placed back up.

  5. I need to report a crime or an emergency

In case of an emergency, immediately contact law enforcement, medical services, or your embassy. Your first priority is your safety! We've created a page to help guide you through the proper steps in case of an emergency: http://www.couchsurfing.org/safety/emergencies

Once you and your possessions are secure, please contact us to report your experience. If possible, include a copy of the police report or other legal report. If there is any information that CouchSurfing can provide to help in the investigation of your case, law enforcement may contact us directly.
