WELCOME TO THE DUTCH LESSONS IN UTRECHT GROUP!
This group is meant for everyone that is following the Dutch lessons in Utrecht or is about to start following these lessons.
ABOUT THE DUTCH LESSONS
We are a group of couchsurfers in Utrecht that like to help people learn our Dutch language. We know how difficult it can be to learn it and enjoy helping out! We are all volunteers and organize the lessons in our free time, just because we like doing it. This means that we are enthusiastic, but it also means that we are not some kind of professional organization. You can expect to really learn Dutch if you join, but you will have to put some effort into it. You don't learn a language from just sitting in at the lesson! Also, we expect you to be an active participating member of the group and not see us as a nice free service.
WHEN AND WHERE AND HOW
WHEN: The lessons are every Tuesday from 20:00-22:00.
WHERE: The location changes every week, we have the lessons in our own living rooms. ONLY when you subscribe to a lesson, you will receive a route description.
HOW: There are two types of lessons you can follow: a structured course and a conversation course. For the structured course you NEED to do homework, and for the conversation course you NEED to have some basic knowledge of the Dutch language.
HOW TO JOIN THE LESSONS
If you want to come to the lessons, please do the following things:
1. Click * Join group * below. In the group, we post a message when a new season starts. There is also information about homework.
2. If you want to join a lesson, you have to subscribe to the event. You can find the lessons as "Utrechts Uurtje Nederlands" in the Events page. In the meeting display, click * Join this meeting *. The lessons are only open at the beginning of each season, and close when they are full! After that, you'll have to wait 'till the next season to join.
3. If you joined a lesson, you will receive the route description. Before that time, please do not ask about the location.
If you DID subscribe for the lesson ON TIME and you did not receive the route description, send a message to Jacque.
4. Download the course material. Version 4.0 is now online. You can print it and take it with you to the lesson.
RULES
READ THESE RULES. PLEASE RESPECT THEM!
Join at the meeting page every time you want to join a lesson. Only join with 100% YES. Update your subscription before Monday 10:00. We do encourage you to be there every week, although missing a lesson can happen.
If you join a season, we expect you to come to most lessons. If, through circumstances, you cannot come after all, please adjust your subscription settings to 100% NO and give us a call / send us a message. We need to know who will be there, because we base the number of teachers that come to the lesson on the number of students that come. If you don't turn up, a teacher came for nothing!
Please be on time. We will just start without you if you're late, but it's nicer to start when everyone is there. If you happen to be late, come in quietly.
Bring your course material with you. A pen and paper!
It's very important that you do the homework, it doesn't matter if you fail, as long as you try. We'll ask you if you did the homework at the start of every lesson. It will really help you in learning Dutch! If you're in the structured course and missed a lesson, you can still do the homework: it's written in the course material. And the chapter of the week will be in the meeting description. If you haven't done your homework we can't teach you and we'll ask you to leave the lesson!
If you're in the conversation group you'll have to prepare a text. We encourage you to practice Dutch during the week, and bring material to the lesson to talk about!
Help clean up. When the lesson ends, there's teacups and stuff all over the place, so it would be very nice if you help the host a bit in cleaning up :)
Put the COMMUNICATION SETTINGS of the Dutch lessons group on 'INSTANT' or 'DAILY DIGESTS' to make sure you don't miss any important information.
