The boot: this is the definition residents have affectionately given the peninsula stretching for over 1300 km from the Alps to the Mediterranean Sea. The arc of the Alps marks Italy's boundaries and protects the peninsula along 1000 km, giving birth to the mountainous ridge that runs down the entire peninsula to Sicily: the Apennines. 80% of Italy is covered by mountains and hills, while over 8000 km of coastline - at times low and sandy and at times high and rocky - mark its boundaries, so that the country offers a unique variety of landscapes: a perfect balance of seas, mountains, hills and flatlands, which, thanks to a mild climate that almost never exceeds +40°C in the south or falls below -10°C in the north, make Italy one of the most interesting and friendly countries for tourists and travellers.
Today, Italy is a true open-air museum with 65% of the world's artworks and historical monuments: visiting Italy means not only coming into contact with the past, but also living in a present abounding in an infinite variety of cultures, dialects, food and wine and traditions. Traveling in Italy gives visitors an opportunity to experience a vast variety of different lifestyles and ways of being that all have one thing in common: they all belong to this marvellous and unique land.
