We are a group that meets at the newish restaurant/bar KT Dral for the purpose of speaking English on Monday nights after 8pm in Saint Denis de la Réunion, and more recently Wednesday nights between 6pm and 8pm at the Coco Beach bar/resto at Hermitage-les-Bains. But perhaps we should be called the polyglot club. About 20 people attend each week. We have also tried to be a virtual conversation club 24/7. Most of the people who attend do not speak English as their mother or native language. The British on Reunion Island do not come in large numbers, mostly because they have it in their minds that they must speak French inorder to meet the locals. We do; however, Tchatchez anglais gets people from all over the world who want to speak English and even the odd English mother tongue speakers from South Africa, Australia and Canada. Ideally at KT Dral, the conversations work best when we are about half English mother or native speakers and the other half people who have learned the language. This happens but rarely... say once a month if we are lucky. Tchatchez anglais is an opportunity to share ones language, accent and culture with others. Travelling Couchsurfers are especially appreciated. Nevertheless, on-line or at KT Dral it is an opportunity to meet with other couchsurfers and share. Moreover, if one wants to meet people who speak Créole, French, Malgashe, or Tamil (Malbar) many of the people attending speak these languages. Many people come to find friends or make contact with people, especially when they are travelling. Join us for our virtual conversation threads 24/7, and if one is on Reunion Island, we meet Monday nights in St Denis at KT Dral (this is the creole spelling for cathedral) behind the RC cathedral at 5 ruelle Saint-Paul, between rue Jean Chatel and rue de Paris, off rue Alexis de Villeneuve. We also meet Wednesdays at Coco Beach. We are looking for on-line volunteers to join our club and participate in the conversation threads. If you attend this group Eugene, the founding moderator, would appreciate it if you would join the club. It makes contacting people later easier. Frankly, most people who attend do not officially join. Often, weeks later, people ask: do you remember that Finnish guy or Australian girl? etc. etc. because perhaps she/he would like to share a flat or apply for a job, etc. etc. The moderators hope this will help people stay in touch, even if they do not attend every week. http://www.couchsurfing.org/group.html?gid=26074
