London - Last Minute Couch:DON'T POST MORE THAN 72HR BEFORE ARRIVING
Please remember your safety - as a host or surfer. Take a look at the safety tips pages for information.
HOW TO INCREASE YOUR CHANCES OF FINDING A LAST MINUTE HOST :
YOUR REQUEST IS TRULY A LAST MINUTE EMERGENCY. This group is for Emergency Requests first and foremost - If it is a few weeks/months before you are in London, then DO NOT POST HERE. Instead use http://www.couchsurfing.org/mapsurf.html to send hosts personal requests directly
YOUR PROFILE IS COMPLETE.
A "last minute host" will want to know as much about you as possible before agreeing to host you.
YOU TRIED COUCHSEARCH FIRST.
Your host will want to know that you've at least given the CouchSearch function a proper try before posting here. You may need to contact a large number of people before you get a 'yes'. Please ensure you try some "Maybe's" too!
INCLUDE LINKS TO YOUR FRIEND's CS PROFILES
Are you surfing with friends? Your friends should have CS profiles also. Include links to your friend's profiles in your post, so your potential host can learn about all of his/her potential guests.
YOURS IS A WELL-WRITTEN REQUEST.
Use the tips from HOW TO WRITE A COUCH REQUEST to help you get a better response. Also you are welcome to contact the mods directly for tips and advice (such as here)
Look at other posts looking for couches the same night(s) as you are and sharing a cheap small-group room (4 bed, 6 bed, etc) room at a hostel, or a 3- to 4- person room at a budget hotel. Use the same CS Safety tips you'd use if you were hosting someone or surfing w/ someone, as that does involve sharing a small space with someone who is currently a stranger to you.
Check out our LONDON CS Wiki for more tips on London and accommodation options.
Expand your search beyond London, as many cities and suburbs in southeast England are within 30-45 minutes of London by train/national rail links.
If you're posting your request on a weekend, many working locals are out & about enjoying London, and may not be able to pop on line and respond as quickly as you'd like.
If you're landing at a London airport late at night, a host may have to work early the next morning and be unable to stay up for you. So, consider either grabbing a cheap airport hotel that night, OR, making a night of it and heading into central London to enjoy the clubs, cafe's, bars, etc. that are open thru the night and meet your host the next morning or sometime the next day.
IF YOU HAVE TO WAIT FOR YOUR HOST:
If you have to wait several hours before you can meet your host, several major train stations around central London have places (called "Left Luggage") where you can leave your bags so you can spend your time exploring the city without having to carry your gear with you. Once you're in central London, these are easily accessible on foot or by tube/subway or bus.
