Once, but as noted previously, it was a pathetic start. You?

YES. I jumped off a moving train in Budapest...had to jump back on because I mistook that particular stop for my stop.

Slightly terrifying and humiliating at the time....but makes for a hugely entertaining story...after the fact. :-)

of course...i refer to the physical action of jumping a train...

are you talking about illegally riding the rails? If so, I did, on an overnight from Munich to Copenhagen.

Yeah, I rode trains for two days last spring. It didn`t work out great but it was a lot of fun.

The first day we couldn`t get out of the train yard. But we rode from one side to the other and to a holding yard. Practicing getting on and off of moving trains and whatnot.

The next day we got on a train. Rode out of town for an hour, then dropped some cars, picked up some more, and repeated this cycle at several factories for several hours, then eventually we rode the same train back to the train yard after about 8 hours.

It was fun, we had our bags packed and wanted to go for a week or so.

Would definitely like to give it another shot though.

I've only hopped local trains around town (Green Bay, Wisconsin), also hopped a train in New Orleans from Downtown, near the Algiers Ferry, to the 9th ward. There's nothing quite like that adrenaline rush of running along a freighter and hopping up that ladder, or for that matter lowering yourself down that ladder, and practicing that skateboard style technique of getting off the train. Ah the euphoria of a safe dismount! Can't wait to get back onto a freighter one of these days!

Train jumping is pretty exciting, truth be told. I've done both kinds, legal and illegal. Actually in Germany it's very easy to ride the rails for a fraction of the legal price. See they only check the tickets once, so buy one for a closer stop and then ride all the way ;) I made it from Frankfurt to Berlin for only 18euros! What a steal :P
