I guess if the meat in the restaurants is really halal then people who want to cook it at home need to buy it from the same place the guys in the restaurant buy it from! Having said that even in countries like Belgium the 'halal' meat might not be strictly halal. I know many Muslims in the UK doubt whether our halal meat is really halal because Muslims rarely control the abittoirs. So I guess they assume some non-Muslim guy is screwing things up somehow. If non-Muslims aren't doing the slaughtering in China I really doubt they're being too picky about the details. But I guess people just try to do their best. Others don't. I went to one Muslism restaurant in Beijing and ate sheep's stomach (I'm 90% sure internal organs are not halal). The same guy who owned that place owned another one up the road where I ate a pork dumpling - admitedly the owner wasn't Muslim himself. Have you looked in the fresh meat section of the largest supermarkets in Zhuhai? When I lived in Xi'an, the Metro had a Halal section. Maybe it was because Xi'an has a large Hui population, or maybe all Metros have a Halal section. When I lived in Zhuhai in 2002 there wasn't a Metro, but maybe there's one now, or maybe the Carrefour has Halal meat.
