Inviting you all to Cornwall, England! Anyone wan to take a trip here? :)
Posted April 1st, 2012 - 10:12 am by Yashi Culver from Camelford, England (Permalink)
I live with my 8 month old son here in Cornwall, full of beaches, pubs, countryside, towns, and pastys!
I have a rather free year (apart from a trip to Japan in May) so I'd like to invite people to come and explore Cornwall, for as long as you want. If you want to take a small holiday, study, work, anything, I'd like to help you out :) My son is half Japanese, we have 3 days a week of speaking Japanese and cooking Japanese food (when I can afford it!) so it would be great for him to spend more time with people from Japan. Anyone and any amount of people are welcome. Let's all have a good Cornish experience!

Mary King, walker and writer, will be in Kyoto and Tokyo to talk about her walk and book, Japan on Foot. She will be available for interviews from May 18th – May 28th. Contact her to arrange an interview at mklond43@hotmail.com Photos can be provided either from the author or from Fine Line Press.
In Brief: Japan on Foot
British journalist Mary King tells the story of how she and her Japanese partner Etsuko Shimabukuro walked 7,500 kilometres through Japan – from Hokkaido, way up north, to Yonagunijima, Okinawa, which is Japan’s westernmost island. Japan on Foot recounts the adventures during their odyssey and includes fascinating insights into Japanese life. The book reveals aspects of the country and culture rarely shown or discussed. Japan on Foot is great reading for the Japanophile and armchair adventurer.

Author's Profile
Mary King hails from the U.K. and has 30 years experience as a journalist. She has worked as a reporter, photographer and sub-editor for newspapers and magazines in Britain, the Middle East and Japan. Her work has appeared in a range of media worldwide. Specialising as a travel writer and photographer for a number of years, Mary also covered news and features stories in more than 60 countries – from Australia to Zimbabwe. During her time in Africa, she worked as a volunteer on a refugee camp in Sudan, and lived in a banana leaf hut with pygmies in Zaire (now Democratic Republic of Congo). Adventure and challenge are lifeblood to her. In Japan, Mary was travel editor and writer for the Asahi Shimbun’s English-language newspaper. In 2009, she moved from Tokyo to Beijing to join China Radio International as a multimedia journalist and radio host. In her spare time, Mary enjoys hiking, theatre, photography and dabbling with digital storytelling.
More Information:
Mary King and Etsuko Shimabukuro know what's involved in walking the length of Japan. They covered 7,500 kilometres on foot in 15 months. In her new book Japan on Foot (Fine Line Press, 2012), Mary King describes both the rigours and delights of “roving reporting” through the country that had long been her home. The women’s walk, which took place at what was a turning point in history for Japan and much of the world, covered the country’s main islands and some of its smaller ones too. A special spirit of Japan is captured in the women's adventures, as well as through the people they interview and meet en route.
Japan on Foot reveals a wide spectrum of Japanese people. Among them strippers, a shamaness, a yakuza Christian, an enlightened being, hunters, farmers, pilgrims, Hidden Christians, as well as a scientist who plans to resurrect the woolly mammoth and a marine geologist who maintains that the ruins of a lost civilisation lie off the shores of an Okinawan island. The book also includes interviews with members of the Ainu and buraku communities who talk about the discrimination they face in Japan. While there are plenty of interesting people and stirring adventures, Japan on Foot is also an inner journey – Mary shares her deepest thoughts and feelings about the people she loves and the country she made home.

japanese travellers only! Please read
I do not speak English at all.
So I can not reply to a message in English
And because I can speak Japanese
Guides are available only to Japanese
I'm sorry.

BackinJapan.org - Little help
Posted May 15th, 2012 - 6:29 am by Vincenzo-San from Saint Petersburg, Russia (Permalink)
Hi Guys!

I am writing to this forum because I guess it's the best place to find Japan Lover.

Few months ago I started a website called http://backinjapan.org/ . The aim of the site is to promote tourist to go back to Japan. I collected a little money and I managed to pay for a making video that you can find here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l-uLLVnA774

I am currently looking for somebody that would like to help me in promoting the idea and keep it alive. Tasks will be writing articles, post updates on the Facebook page mainly. New ideas are more than welcomed! :)

If you are interested please let me know and if you're not interested but you like to support the idea you can:

- Like the Facebook Page http://www.facebook.com/backinjapan
- Tell your friend that exists
- Chip in to get some founds for marketing and different activities.

Thank you all and I hope to be BackInJapan with many! :)

Hi CSers,

This is not exactly related to the purpose of making this group but I thought CS might care more about the situation.

http://www.nature.com/news/iranian-physicist-sentenced-to-prison-1.10642

Omid is one of my best friends who is a very smart scientist: as you read in that link above he was sentenced to 10 years in prison in Iran because of false accusations! I was hoping they set him free after keeping him in Jail for 15 months but just heard that awful verdict. I just sent his sister some scientific articles he wanted to study ...thought it is a good sign... Please share the story on your facebook pages or your blogs, groups or anywhere else you may think of...spread the word. I know it may not change anything for him but we could try at least! I am so desperate don't know how to help him

We plan to ride more/less the length of Japan in 2-3 months, from Wakkanai in Hokkaido to Okinawa, with major stops in Tohoku (to do clean-up), Tokyo (public events), and maybe somewhere near YOU!

If you live in Japan, or want to ride along with us anytime, please contact me JJ Muzacz at jmuzacz@gmail.com or the BEE team leader at teamleader@beejapan.org

Also, if you can possibly host 5 riders or can recommend a nice place along our route, we appreciate it. We will be camping a lot, so more human contact with you lovely CS people is welcome!

Or, if you have a connection with a venue, someone or some place we could possibly hold a BEE event, clean a beach, cook a meal together, etc. We are ALL EARS!
