Advice: Roadtrip in Japan

Hey,

Me and my friend were planning to go on a road trip on his bike around New year. We wanted to cover the Osaka-Nara-Kyoto triangle in a span of 3 days. But the costs went up a lot because of the Toll fees, around 50,000 Yen per person. So now thinking that maybe something offbeat, that wouldn't cost that much would be better. Also heard that Kyoto is best in Spring or Autumn so want to postpone it to later.

Any suggestions anyone?

Hey, thanks for the reply!
Now I am thinking that maybe I should go hitch hiking instead.
And will make sure I stick to either one of Osaka, Nara or Tokyo.
