Location: People >> Daniel's group Dan in Romania
Hello, all my name siblings out there. Joining this group, I have, at least, to give you some information about our name in my country. As far as I know, most names are 'Daniel', and that's where all derivtives come from. We also have a saint and his holiday with this name (as in most orthodox countries). It's quite a common name here, but I will tell you about my name, 'Dan'. I know it means day in serbian speaking countries, but in our culture it doesn't have a meaning. We are usually proud people, always having a problem with others that think our full name is Daniel, which it isn't! We have a few traditions regarding the name Bogdan, the first leader of Moldavia was called like this, but as far as Dan goes, it's a little mistery. I'm not sure why my parents gave me this name. There are few other names in romanian that are this short (Ion, Ana) and it's usually used in a full version, Daniel, Daniela, etc. For nick-names, although it's not traditionally common, many of my friends double the Dan, so they call me Dan-Dan, and the name I usually hear is 'Dane!'. This is what they use to call me. So, I hope these facts sound interesting to you. Keep Dan-ing the world over ;) Dan Olar, from Romania |
