Location: Ideas >> Vegans & Vegetarians >> Taiwan Vegans & Vegetarians Chinese new year market shark fin demonstration/support
Just found out about a very meaningful demonstration by Mr. Shi who advocates sparing the shark fins in feasts during the Chinese New Year break. (The page is in Chinese) facebook.com/events/274735389246331/ Mr. Shi went to the special car-free block festival selling all kinds of goodies for Chinese New Year to advocate not buying shark fins on 1/17. Even though many ppl liked his act, in the end, he was thrown to the ground and beaten up. But he will be in the market again this coming Friday, 1/20 b/t 5-10pm. And he is wondering if any one care to join him? The activity is rally flexible. We can bring our own signs of "No shark fins/拒吃魚翅" and stand beside him. If ppl prefer not to participate actively/be exposed, they can be there merely for moral support; watch over him nearby and show up to help him if there is violence again, or simply call 911 so that the police will show up to stop the violence. As a physically challenged person himself, it is likely that Mr. Shi is pushed around easily. (If you read Chinese, you will realize his physical condition better. facebook.com/shihwally?sk=wall) This Chinese New Year specialties market only last for 2 weeks ending by the Chinese New Year's eve. So it's also a great Taiwan experience of the year if you happened to be here.
