I have had some of my friends from the US come over to India for treatment and surgery...and they have gone away wildly happy, saved money, and now are leading normal lives.

Doctors in India are amongst the best anywhere, and due to the Rupee/Dollar/GBP/Euro exchange rate, medical treatment is cheaper. I would suggest that you do look at this option seriously.

If you need any help, I could put you on to the best that I know....ultimately its you who will decide, and get the level of comfort to make that decision.

My best,
Sudhir

DARRELL,
@"They were astonished and aghast at my dental tourism to Hungary in 2006"...
This is a wide PRACTICE in Uzbekistan too!
The reasons are:
About ALL Uzbek dentists were educated/trained in Germany, in the USA or Israel.
About ALL Uzbek eye Doctors were educated/trained in Germany,
Israel or in the USA too.
ALL Uzbek dentists, eye Doctors have created their clinics with some German or the USA clinics owners,as their franchisers, the equipment is also from the Germany,Israel or from the USA.
ALL Uzbek dental, eye surgery clinics are English speaking.

I'd say do your due diligent homework and go for it! Of course your doctor won't be happy about it... duh, you are one more person keeping him away from his boat payment. Plus there are very fine doctors everywhere, often educated in the US.. and many are wonderfully set up for this medical tourism, with fine hotels, who follow you medically for your entire stay in pleasant suroundings with good food and possibly a wonderful beach view... so why not pamper yourself as well as get your problems resolved for less?

Who are we kidding, the US is nothing but highway robbery as far as health care goes... even if you have health insurance, the insurance companies get the same proceedure at half the cost of someone forced to pay out of pocket... like that's fair?

Darrell - In Canada, it has been my experience that our best specialists were trained in India. After all, they have probably beaten out tens of thousands of other brilliant students to get the few places available in venerable Indian medical schools. In my opinion, they are the best of the best. Go for it and while you are there, enjoy one of the most exotic and wonderful places on earth.

I found a doctor in California by chance. Lucky me! Dr. Bhatka saved my life. At least that's what 3 other doctors told me.

I left CA 3 years ago, but wouldn't consider changing doctors: he's the best, even long distance.

Hi everybody,
definitely Argentina, in South America is a very good place for medical/dentist tourism.
Many women come to Buenos Aires, for plastic surgery.
Many plastic doctors have bilingual web page.
1 dollar is 6,30 pesos argentinos. But you have to bring cash because we have 2 exchange prices, like in Venezuela, for example.
The medicine system here is 5 stars, many people from other countries, most from Latin American, of course, come here to study and take post graduate courses in the Medicine University of Buenos Aires(UBA).
Nowadays, to live here (rent an apartment, eat, etc) is more expensive than 3 or 4 years ago, because we have inflation, but I think is still convenient.

Hi Darrel!
If you need help in Delhi we can arrange for you to liase with some of the best doctors. You could scan and send a copy of your reports for an opinion.
I can also speak to some doctors for you and pass on their email ids to you so that you can communicate directly.
Best,

The best time to come to Delhi would definitely be from Oct to March. Till Oct Delhi is too hot and humid. Our house is also very close to Dr Shroff's Eye Hospital. The same who are also in Mumbai. It's a family of eye specialists and among the best. Many, many other good doctors too. I'm sure Sudhir will guide you very well. We are also here to help and support in any way. Let us know what you decide.

Hi Katie

Delhi is a great place for such treatments - (as are Mumbai + Chennai) - reason is that we have an expert pool of internationally accomplished doctors - superb hospitals and facilities - and all this comes at a fraction of the price you pay in USA....

That is why so many people come here for medical tourism - as they coin it - get treatment - at nominal costs and also enjoy a tour of some famous destinations like Taj Mahal etc while they are here...

Take care...Ajay

I am from England but spent 3 years living in India.
We had superb doctors and dental treatment and at a price not possible in the UK.
I have had surgery with a 5 day hospital stay.
At every level I was happy with my treatment.
However you will need to do some research when choosing a doctor and hospital.
Things move quickly when its private so just get over there and go see a few doctors.

Good luck.

I would second what another commenter said... do your homework on the doctor. Talk to some of the other patients, and then go for it! I've had surgery done twice in Thailand and twice in India. Despite the fact that I worked in hospitals in the USA for over twenty years and my Daughter-in-law is a doc here, I would not willingly get surgery in the USA on a bet! Our system is on the edge of complete and total failure! To the point that if you have any hope to get adequate care you MUST have a patient advocate/guardian with you 24/7!. It's not that our doctors and nurses are not well trained or not putting their hearts into it. They are! But they are stretched so thin that major major mistakes are the norm not the exception.

Just have a second here so I have to be brief

The hip resurfacing I had done in India cost me $7,500 per side. The EXACT same procedure here using the exact same prosthesis would have cost over $50,000 per side in the USA with half the hospital stay and me having to carry the added cost of PT (included in India).

What I would strongly suggest is that if the cost seems too low, I would check for references to this doctor... talk to other patients, check with several of the Med Tourism companies and compare his rates to that of others doing the procedure...

I worked in American Hospitals for over 20 years and despite the far better looking facilities we have here, I would not have surgery in ANY American hospital for all the tea in China. That said I actually HAVE had two surgeries done in Thailand and two in India and I would not hesitate to recommend EITHER country as a med tourisam destination!

What I would say do however, is not base your decision on things like how clean the country is or speculation on what folks think might or might not be issues, because that really means nothing! Instead use this wonderful tool called the "internet" where you can with some digging find out exactly who is the best surgeon in the world for your procedure. Where ever he (or she) practices is where you get it done because bottom line? It is their skill that matters more than anything else period!

I am shocked at the prices charged in US hospitals. I just did a quick search for comparable UK prices, say, for hip resurfacing and, whilst nowhere near as cheap as India, it was about a third of the cost of the US.

(Of course for British citizens it is covered free of charge on the NHS - unless you don't want the 18 weeks wait.)

This isn't particularly useful because I do not have the article, so I apologize in advance. However, this article said American insurance companies are beginning to even prefer their patients go to other countries to save the ompanies money. This insurance would pay for your surgery and your transportation and lodging expenses to India or wherever because the insurance company still saved money. Surely they checked out the quality of care before getting involved at this level. I am also interested in surgery abroad to save money but need to feel safer about it. I am guessing a big issue is when you come home and have a problem and no one here wants to take you on. Good luck.

I had prepared myself to the IELTS exam in the same kitchen, where you'd took photo, and have passed it well.

For our country this is normal. But I hope that tourism will develop very well and brings much more money...

'hot desert sand'- is a treatments in Central Asia too.
The hole would be digged in the sole enough for an average person to seat there,she/he would heated only by the hit of the sand, sole, the head must be safely covered by a straw hat wrapped by some cotton texture, drink only green tee and eat watermelons, especially cultivated for this treatment without any pesticides.
