I'll keep an eye out for Sessions. A couple of weeks ago I joined some MeetUp group friends and saw the new Bond. Like you, I liked the main protagonist much better and the storyline was more believable. Less overt sexual innuendo and techno-wizardry. More related to the human interaction component and for me a better movie (though I still like almost any Bond to many other types of movies).

For books, I think I've finished all the currently translated Henning Mankell books from Sweden. A local Fin told me that the daughter is now the replacement cop to Kurt Walander, if you are familiar with the detective humanist thinker character. So far, no movies for this like the Stieg Larsson trilogy. -r

I, too, thoroughly enjoyed The Sessions and Searching for Sugarman was very interesting.

Has anyone seen the movie Any Day Now? The reviews are good but I'm not so sure about the subject matter.

We saw "Lincoln" last night and loved it. I think this movie has 'Oscar' written all over it. Daniel Day Lewis will win for best actor. The costume designer will take home an Oscar and the movie will win Best Picture of the year.

Saturday night, I watched Love, Pain and the Whole Damn Thing made in 1972 with Maggie Smith and Timothy Bottoms and then Sunday night I watched Downton Abbey. Maggie Smith is such a fine actress and always so witty. Check out the movie if you haven't seen it.

Go to the pharmacy and look at all of the earwax removal systems.

Our little local drug store here on Whidbey Island has a dozen or so to choose from, all saying that they're better than the others.

My left ear was plugged up for over a week, then miraculously "popped" open all on its own.

Frustrating at best.

I loved 'The Artist'. It's absolutely charming. 'Amour' is playing at our local arthouse cinema at the moment. I'll try to catch it this week if it's still on.

Last night I went there to see 'Anna Karenina'. The production was quite a surprise (no wonder, with a screenplay writer like Tom Stoppard (-: ), but it worked wonderfully. A lot of fine actors in the movie. I agree that Knightly was miscast, but she did a reasonable job with the role of Anna.

Anyone ever see the Chinese film 'Farewell My Concubine'? Another brilliant, brilliant movie. I saw it about 15 years ago, and still remember its emotional impact. There wasn't a dry eye in the house. The entire audience sat in silence for at least 5 minutes when the film was over.

When I was in Germany recently, a friend of mine was waxing eloquent about a Chinese film called 'In the Mood for Love'. She said she's seen it three times.

I must try to track it down, but with English, German, or Dutch subtitles.

There's no doubt that many outstanding movies are coming out of China.
