Pity most of the couchsurfers I know spend most of their time travelling...
In France I would recommend Xavier Pilot....a gracious host in the middle of nowhere...
Or in the UK our own Val Freith the epitomy of couchsurfing...
If you were doing the filming world wide I have lots I would recommend...
Once this site was full of people with the same mind set...but freeloaders have come aboard...just wanting free accommodation...not wishing to share and contribute ...

I would recommend you contact Bente in Norway. She is an interesting woman and an extraordinary cook.

Once upon a time couchsurfing had a chat room...the button was on your profile page (dashboard)...but it was removed 2006 I believe.
Lots of people were regulars in there and became known as Chaddicts...Chat Addicts...
But we helped lots of new surfers get around the site, even got a surfer back to her host ...in real time...she was in Mexico...I was in australia...but we managed it...
while I was travelling it was a good place to log into for info and for finding hosts...I was not online much, just in internet cafes so chaddicts would help me get in touch and recommend me to hosts...
Sadly it has gone and greatly missed...It was an important part of CS in the early days....
Lots of excellent couchsurfers left when it was removed
My chaddict family..
my "mother" was a 34 yr old malaysian...
I was one of 3 twins...Muscovado(phillipines) Serendipidous(Canada) and me...
Xavier was the grandson

I love your Chaddict family George! What an international family...
I remember you talking about the chat room. I never used it but you're right, it's sad that it's gone, thinking how helpful it is to many people. Do you know why they removed it?
You're right about the amount of freeloaders but there is still loads of amazing people. I've met so many wonderful people and just recently, I mentioned it at my newspaper article and said: "knowing that I can knock on people's doors in many parts of the world and knowing I'd be happily accepted is one of the most important richnesses of my life."
There are lots of brilliant people still on this site...the only reason I am still here...I want to meet and share their lives...
They said the chatroom was removed because of bandwidth...I can understand when it was only funded by our contributions...I have paid ....but not in this incarnation...
But now we are a Company and being funded I see no reason for not bringing it back...
I love the fact that people can knock on my door and my life becomes fuller and richer with every surfer I am fortunate enough to host....
george
That's nice of you George! That's true, with each person in our lives, we're not only richer but also wiser.

Marilyn,
I feel the same way! This is why I love CS so much. I love staying with local people as I travel. Sometimes it's the tiny little things that makes my trip unforgettable and it's mostly my hosts, the experience of being with them, the moments we share. There are so many programs, documentaries and else on tv's. Nowadays Turkish tv channels are full of travel programs but almost none of them touches people's lives. One after the other, they show the cities, the countries, places but do we get to see how people live? What makes them laugh? What are their dreams? What do they eat? Where do they shop? What do they care? There are so many little things that makes us similar or different but there is really a little line in between. The news are full of wars, killings, hatred... People afraid of each other. When I travel alone, they think I'm crazy. When I stay with people, even crazier. I just want to show that the other is not any different than me. I just want to show the good side of the people. I don't know... I have so much in my mind but I'm not always able to convey the message. I think all I want is to touch people's heart and to awaken by doing the simplest thing: by reaching. We'll see...

Kris,
Thanks for the offer!
We'll see if coming to the US will be possible or not. In the meantime, I'll concentrate on the nearby places. The producer said they make the agreement for 13 episodes and if they're happy with the results, we'll continue. Of course I'll keep the group posted.

If you make it to the US for your project, you need to come to the midwest also. You and your crew are more than welcome to stay with me! Plenty of active couchsurfers to interact with in Kansas City Missouri.
Dear Deborah,
Thanks so much for the offer.
I hope we can make it to the US. Everything is up in the air for the moment. We'll see how things will go. I'd love to come visit you if we can make it that far.
Best wishes.
