Yes I've heard of the ice hotel. Never stayed in there though. Even thinking of it makes me feel cold and I don't like cold! But you're right, it sounds weird.

No, they just paid extra. I think the beehive huts were twice the price for the other option. We didn't want to pay the extra but the room was too damp and the toilets were about a few hundred meters away so it was a good investment!

I agree with Cadence, a beautiful story. I'd very much like to meet those people! Are you still in touch with them? (You said "things are better now" so it seems like they're still in business.
