Salom Darrell,
you are right, we discussed many similarities between California and Russia at these threads..
@"MIT is one of our most prestigious. There is possibly no higher. The weather would be better at Stanford"...
@Marilyn,
of course, Stanford could be much preferred because of warm weather in Palo Alto"...
You both are right, we discussed many similarities between California and Russia at this thread:
If you could live in a foreign country, which country you would like to live in?
http://www.couchsurfing.org/group_read.html?gid=2164&post=12628221
We can now better understand American mentality after debates there:
Do you live in the States? If so, was the stereotype about your state true?
http://www.couchsurfing.org/group_read.html?gid=2164&post=11573256
Besides Stanford could be much preferred because of so many realised projects of best American universities' alumni in Palo Alto:
Many countries have sought to create their own versions of Silicon Valley. Nearly all have failed.

@Grood...I live in Korea, and get these requests several times a month. Usually it's 1 day notice, and 3 or 4 of them asking to be hosted. I ignore them. Korean's are not big on inviting foreigners into their homes. The young ones are trying to be more westernized, but really lack what we would consider good manners. That's not a criticism, just an observation :)

Kris, I keep chickens here in Kenmore and they do not need heat lamps at night. My coop is insulated but the girls puff their feathers up and they all stay warm. The only thing that might need heat is the water container if the temp goes below freezing. Ballard is warmer than Kenmore so I think they will be fine. You do not have to camp with them.
Happy Christmas

Happy Boxing Day.

I used to accept every request but I got older and more experienced and selective. I have a Japanese guest, Kyo, here for Christmas who has been here before. I will have a South Korean girl student in Belgium coming on the 2nd.

I had a deluge of requests that I turned down. Badly written like David's one.

I took 6 Cs members to The National Theatre this year. I have shared great times with people whom I have never met before. My friends know how much I love it and have met my guests, but none of them join CS.

Happy new year and the right kind of people are welcome here.

Love Val in Welwyn Garden City and welcome to my world

hi Amanda,
I share your opinions/concerns. I was/am only Hosting...
would like to read about you being more and more picky!
@"The people who surf and never host are really clueless about the amount of effort that goes into being a host. I!used to feel guilty turning people down - but now I've become more and more picky. Maybe the people who only take and never give back will eventually get the message when their couch requests get turned down"?

oh jana, your little kittens are just darlings!
my belvedere, 9 years old now and magnificent with his long, black hair and emerald eyes, has the most amazing pink-and-white, huge yaaaawn.
i found that, like people, cats can't help themselves and must yawn, when they see someone else do it.
so, i look him in the eye and yawn at him. seconds later, he yawns back, which makes me yawn and so it goes.
i find it makes us both tired, so is good exercise, before going to bed, together.

yaaawning with cats
and a very happy new year to all of you :>)
