Kris

Thanks for the thread "Mish Mash" - I guess it gives me permission also to blurt my thoughts out too.

Am going to see the film Quartet tomorrow - really looking forward to that despite varying reviews.

The more I hear about the rape in India, the more horrified I become by the amount of violence shown. But, I am really heartened by the amount of protests that have taken place.

The weather here has been really depressing - damp, misty and grey but I have been reading a blog written by some Dutch friends that I met on a slow boat to South America a couple of years ago. They travelled for two and a half years in a truck they call Simba and have only recently returned to Holland. Next week they are off to Indonesia for 3 months (backpacking this time) before coming back to Europe to ready their truck for another trip to Africa.

It was a lovely morning but is now raining and we are threatened with a drop in temperature and the possibility of snow. I am sitting here dreaming of a spring evening in France, sipping a glass of red wine, getting to know virtual friends and enjoying good company.

I don't get many requests to host due to where I live but have had quite a few requests from young CSers coming from Greece, Spain and Portugal who have joined for one reason only. The economic situation in their countries is even worse than here, there are no jobs for young people and they are hoping to find work. Consequently they are looking for free accommodation while they job hunt. I do feel desperately sorry for them but lots of British young people are in the same position. They obviously are desperate enough to try anything - their ingenuity has to be admired.
