CS is great........but don't let your guard down

I love the couchsurfing community and have met some great people. Wonderful experiences. I have learned so much and get together often with a local CS host who I really connect with. However, this is a wake-up call that we all need to be cautious.

We had a man who was the CS Ambassador to Buffalo, NY. Great host, friendly guy, threw great parties, awesome artist, and a wealth of information on travel. He's now in prison for possessing child pornography, (some photos inflicting pain on children). Here is the link to a story on him in in a local paper before he got busted, being interviewed about CSing.

Here is the article on his criminal activity.

I think it's only natural for a person who victimizes others to search out every free avenue to pursue their perversions.

Fortunately, those of us who have built a community of trust with each other through months and years of banter, have nothing to fear.

We know each other.

If someone tries to pull anything over on us, we all call them on it.

I trust us.

There will always some cases like that and one needs to be on guard but one can get some idea either thru emails or talking to them. Never host someone if the party comes across that you dont feel comfortable. Politely refuse the request as it will be neither pleasant for the host or the other.

Dont ever throw caution to the wind. A vast majority of CS dont fall in this category but there will always be some who abuse such a great concept of CS.

Yes, of course never host someone who you don't feel comfortable with goes without saying.

The thing about Crandall is I knew him somewhat & had talked to him quite a bit at get-togethers. I had been to 2 of his CS parties. Great host. Nice guy. His own sweet grandmother would come to his CS parties. When he hosted he would sometimes bring his CS guest to a dinner in the country where his parents lived. Nice family I heard.

He went out of his way to be a great host. Picking his CS guests up at the bus stop if they arrived after midnight, etc. He had over 100 references, all positive and raving.

I guess what I'm trying to say is: you just never know.

Yes, they did. I was going to report him to CSing but I noticed that he was already deleted.

Sad situation.

Although it still doesn't mean that he's ever acted out on any of this and he only sent to one other person, which means he wasn't in the business of creating, collecting and distributing child porn. I'm not condoning the behavior, but I'm also not going to crucify him for life over it either.... which is what will happen to him now. Many molesters were molested themselves.. yet as far as we know he's never taken it to the real world. There are reasons for everything.

But maybe more people need to understand just how 'observed' all of us are nowadays.

I have 8 cousins. 4 of them have children.

I emailed all them, offering my total inheritance to go to them, and asked them to respond and tell me what they think.

No one answered.

All of my money and assets will now go to Peta, where it will do the most good.
