I'm not a farmer but am a keen armchair gardener. We have a radio programme called "Gardener's Question Time" and the panellists there talk a lot about green fertilizers for allotment holders, particularly for over the winter period. They keep the ground weed free and can be rotovated into the soil in the spring.
