The pleasure to make things - part III
Posted February 6th, 2013 - 2:25 pm by from Curitiba, Brazil (Permalink)
Oi!

Have been busy making this quilt.

My sister asked me to make a panel for her daughter´s wedding party, as part of the decoration. Ok, I said, but I would like it will be useful for the couple afterwards. As panel, curtain, bed quilt, table cloth, picnic towel...

Today I assembled it in one piece - still a lot of work ahead...

Hugs to all!

Emi.

Thank you all for the compliments!

Marilyn, so nice to learn about quilts stories, they are life stories.

Karen, maybe 40 years ago it was difficult.

When we are younger we take rules more seriously. Afterall, if the result is good and useful, what matters is having fun and let creativity free.

Hugs to all!

Emi.

Helga, thank you! would be great if you were here now, sewing, laughing and drinking tea with me!

By the way, this quilt is going to Germany... as my niece is living there with her beloved and lucky German guy.

Have a happy day!

Emi.

Emi

It's lovely. Reading other posts reminded me of seeing an exhibition of quilts from the States made by people affected by AIDS, probably at the height of the epidemic. That must have been 20-30 years ago but I still remember feeling very moved by them.

Yes Helga! You should be here to help me...

The oficial wedding already happened, in Germany. Now it is the good part: the party, in Brasil!

Couple living in Munch. Will visit them and you by bike :)

Be well! You know, the blue sky is always there, above clouds.

Helga, you are priviledged with so many bikes routes and infra structure! Ok, Stuttgart area... wait for me... ehehe

Quilt is almost ready! 2-3 days more and I will post a pict of it. Have had some help from friends who come to visit me.
It is my biggest patchwork so far, in record time!

Satisfied smile :)

Cherie, thanks! I express myself better by making things than by words.

And what is your next project ;-)

Helga, my hairdresser told me to make a red rose to use in my hair, in my niece wedding.

As soon as I finished the quilt I went to buy some cm of organza to make it... but once at the shop I saw so many wonderful organza colours that I had to buy some meters of them. Just put it on my window, making knots. Love it!

Dear Cherie, as you encourage me, I post some more pics - the organza I bought yesterday and made a "curtain", instantly!

It gives me colour, transparency, light - everything I like.

Quick panic, as I ran down the road, cake in arms, to my neighbours.
....had been blowing cold air onto the cake mix for one hour.

Karen: Now you have me laughing out loud!

I'm just wondering if the rust dust added to the flavour...???

Hilarious!!!

Beautiful quilt with the joy of making things. Lovely colours in your window.

I have made many things, brass rubbing, candles, photo cards, wine, beer, pink gin, cakes, bread, honey flapjack, Etc etc

Sadly my once loved and now abandoned 100 year old Singer treadle sewing machine has now gone away with a gypsy.

One lovely Christmas card I made was a brass rubbing of a little angel in a church. Then cut out and mounted on card.

Any guests coming and wanting to do this, ask me. A very English thing to do.

My friends in Texas made many quilts by machine and we took them to a village in Mexico where we built a clinic. Sadly they no longer go there as it has become a drug cartel.

Einstein said that "the true sign of intelligence is not knowledge but imagination".

Welcome to my world,

Val in England

Would love to see them - and taste the beer, wine, cakes...

@Marilyn:
Emi I love the way the organza looks. Is it silk? Fabric has become so expensive that it's cheaper to redesign things.

I not sure, as it was so cheap! I paid less than R$ 6 reais (around US$ 3) per meter.

@Cherie:
Please have Jeff snap a picture of you in your new tango dresses: I'd LOVE to see them!

Me too!!!

@ Helga
Emi you have to come and help me decorate my place and bring some colour into it.
Yes! but you can do it yourself and have much fun!

Where do you get your ideas from?
From nature, I guess. From everything I see and feel.
I felt an urge to bring those fabrics with me... surely I need what they give me!

@Karen
rust dust is a must!
add a music to this lyric!

Helga
Do you think you could downsize the picture and show us the whole window? I am curious how the window looks all together.

Here it goes, and my folding bike is happy under the old white curtain.
Curious to see sunset in this window. It happens during my working time...

Helga, of course you can copy it but I am sure you can make your own unique one! Mine is, so far, completely wild, raw, with no sewing in the border.

Yes, there is a previous white/transparet curtain underneath.

Not squares, the fabrics are retangular. Width= 1,20m. Length= 1m

If you like I can send you some of this fabric :)

Nowadays it is my favourite souvenir: fabrics. From all over the world.

Hugs.

Emi.

Great idea, Emi!

Some collect tea cups, others book matches, menus, or coasters: a fabric tells SO MUCH about a place and time and people.

I'll think of you as I travel, and I'll take time to look at the fabric.

@Karen, I still dream of going to these places you visited 40 years ago - would bring some meters of fabric in my backpack as you did, for sure!

I particularly like pieces with mistakes in them!
Mine have plenty of them :0

Although I admire skilled handcrafted people nowadays I am far from being "perfectionist".

Marilyn

Looking forward to seeing the dress when you work out how to post pic. We have charity shops here, one in particular, Oxfam, used to have a fashion show every year. Fashion and Art students worked on donated clothes, making them into their own creations. Fabulous. I was kicked out of the sewing class at school for misbehaving so lost motivation to do these things myself!!

Cherie, I am thinking here... would be great if we swap fabrics from OUR place!

Being totally incompetent, I don't know how to post the photo of me in my tango dress that Jeff took.
Dear Marilyn, you are not incompetent, you just don´t know how!
I learned how to do, but don´t know how to instruct you.
Sending you a pm.

I was kicked out of the sewing class at school for misbehaving so lost motivation to do these things myself!!
Anne, misbehaving people usually are verrry creative!
