Hitching partner this summer: Europe to India via Russia, Kazakhstan, China, Pakistan
Posted December 29th, 2009 - 6:18 pm by from Kathmandu, Nepal (Permalink)
Hey all,

Well, I couldn't fit it in all in the title, but I tried...

I am thinking of traveling from Europe to India (well, Nepal actually) this spring/summer, mostly by hitching or random local transportation like train if needed and am wondering if anyone is interested in doing that too.

I am thinking of going this way: Ukraine, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Kashgar area of China, down the Karakoram highway in Pakistan, and come out where ever in India.

I have been to India and Nepal a bunch of times and just do not feel like flying past everything anymore. And I have some serious wanderlust stored up these days...

I usually don't try to plan travel out or search for a travel partner for such a long trip, but because of all the annoying visa restrictions and such, there is not much of a choice. Most of them have to be arranged from your home country and with exact dates of entry and departure, and it seems unlikely that I bump into travelers with the same visa dates as me.

I have done lots of hitching and traveling on my own, but I think it would be great to do something more intense like this with someone you could rely on to watch your stuff and help pass hours of roadside waiting.

I am thinking to partly pass through the counties I mentioned and partly take time to check them out...couchsurfing, camping, staying in random villages, cheap hotels if necessary along the way.

My interests are seeing how people live, nature, adventure, respecting local customs, photography, hearing people out. I am pretty flexible and open, but I guess I would say I am kind of righteous about certain things like justice, respecting people and cultures and environment and human rights, simplicity, traveling light, wasting little.......and I try to live and travel according to those beliefs.

I speak Russian, so that should be helpful through several countries.

I am thinking to be floating around Europe for a bit in the spring, visiting friends and WWOOFING, and then heading to Ukraine as summer starts.

Does this sound like anything anyone is interested in?

Hey,

I am updating this post just to say I had a change of plans and think I will be hitching/traveling starting FROM Nepal..I am interested in going around Central Asia, possible KArokoram highway, possibly Mongolia. There is a lot of complications to most of what I am interested in doing now- either closed borders, collapsed highways, etc.- so I am not sure of what will actually happen. But I am still very interested in doing some hitching from Nepal in Central Asia, starting May or maybe later.

Just wanted to update this....

I'm going to travel Lithuania-Malaysia(i guess) this summer through Pakistan->India, in case you'll be around we could do some traveling together. No plans so far as everything is interesting and all is flexible, my mum says "with one ass you cannot sit on all world in one time" but me will do it! :)
Shout if there will be your plan update, maybe our paths will meet :)

Hey:)
Im planning to go to Pakistan or India this summer.
I want to hitchhike and looking for a travel buddy, maybe we could travel together for some time?
what about your visa to Pakistan?
I've heard they only give it in your home country but in Poland the government doesnt want to give visas to Pakistan, I was thinking if its possible to get it in Iran, some people managed to do it:)

hi kasia,
perhaps i would be interested in joining you for your hitch-hiking adventure to pakistan or india.
my final destination would probably be thailand or somewhere in south east asia as i just got back from india at christmas, and although i don't have a huge amount of hitch-hiking experience (apart from short journeys) i would be interested in this adventure.
i should be free to go in july as my work finishes at the end of june but as i've no definite plans to end up in thailand, my plans could change completely.
how long do you think it would take to get there?
feel free to ask any questions!
looking forward to hearing back from you,
sinéa∂ :)

Well Martine, it all depends on what areas of Pakistan are you trying to travel to. Its usually not recommended for a woman to travel alone but with a male partner its fine. Avoid the bad areas as with all other countries. Trust me some parts of New York are more dangerous than the bad parts of Pakistan :P
