I have just returned from my first CS travel as a surfer and not a host.
I would like to say just how wonderful it was to find like minded travellers and some my age to stay with or have a meal with along the way.

I missed on staying with Bob from this group as I had to cancel the whole WA leg of my journey - but hey there's always next time.

I will never be alone again when I travel thanks to CS, its so far more interesting than a hotel room.

So dont think CS is just about over seas travel - I was disappointed with a few responces I got "I only host OS surfers". So even if you are 50+ and have just been hosting get out and try the Aussie hospitality that awaits you.

cheers
Beth

The attitude of only hosting "OS surfers" is pretty wierd.

I too experienced it when I went to Melbourne last year, from where I live south of Perth, Indonesia and Singapore are closer to home and cheaper to get to than Melbourne, Sydney or any of Qld. Even when we fly over to the east coast, we do actually go "overseas" as the route taken usually crosses the southern coastline and ocean.

From where Beth lives, most of south east Asia would surely be much closer than southern Australia? So why does this attitude exist?

A trip within Australia by Australians should be done regularly by all of us, Australia is an incredibly beautiful and diverse country with attractions seen nowhere else in the world. And when we travel, our travel experiences are enhanced by couch surfing, after all isn't that why we're here?
