Yes!
A friend of mine, Tony, has spent the last 10 years building a 53ft Wharram Tehini catamaran for the very purpose. Wowie Zowie will be setting sail from Wales this September, final destination surfing the Pacific.
I think there maybe some crew spaces left, anyone who is interested send me a message.

TO be legal, he needs a International Ships License and I see that he does not yet have one?
The yacht needs to be on this International database otherwise he will get clobbered:
http://www.itu.int/online/mms/mars/ship_search.sh
It is free and he will also need a SRC or LRC depending on whether he has installed HF, MF or just VHF radios.
All transmitters need to be declared on the ITU including any or all of the following:
EPIRB, PLB, VHF, Portable VHF, SART, Radar, AIS.
He obviously (hopefully) has an operators license for any transmitters and the ITU database is totally a separate issue, registered through Ofcom (online for free or £20 by letter or phone).

ps: My yacht is fully listed on the database. :-)
