Hi Brigit,
Thanks so much for your replay...I am printing out your message for future references
Looks like there is hope for us to kayak in Europe... one day.
We are very recreational kayakers - no rough or white waters
only slow rivers and lakes for us. I like to look at world from the water. We try to kayak few hours every weekend,
Lake Konstanz sounds very nice, If we ever do it I hope I will be able to find you and we could do it together.
Thanks again and if you ever in our neck of wood we can do it here as well.
regards,
gina

In Brittany most sea-side resorts have canoes and kayaks for hire. Most are 'sit-on-top' types and don't go very fast and are not very comfortable for long periods. If you're used to real kayaks it's more difficult to hire but some clubs do hire out their equipment. It really depends on the time and place. Tarifs vary too. Here in Quimper a day's rental can be around 50euros whereas in other places it's much more, sometimes less. There are also accompanied outings for a day to a week for the intrepid (this is the Atlantic which can get very rough)and experienced.
The best thing is to contact a local kayaker or club as soon as you know where and when you're going and ask them for advice. I found a lovely group in Orkney, Scotland through looking up 'kayak clubs' on internet. They took us out for a marvellous trip along the coast to see the Tall Ships in a harbour further away.
Hope you'll think of coming to Brittany one day,
Helen
