Bike riding around the world
This coming October I will have officially packed all my belongings in storage and will set out on my bike to travel (first) the United States and then the world. I'd like to know if anyone here as already done or attempted this and if anyone has any advice on what I should do.
I am considering joining a program where I can help others with organic farming in exchange for lounging and food, but I'd also like to use couch surfing to my advantage and when I finally settle down let others come and stay with me. I'm hoping for this to be a great experience, but in Florida, where my journey starts, it sounds like it might be a dangerous one.
I'm doing my own bacpacking around the world, but with a bike, would be hard, since the weight of the stuff I carry basically camping gear and cloths.
Anyway you can also consider www.helpx.net it is an alternative for WWOOF and on it you have global access not like WWOOF that you have to pay for every country, I'm right now in a beutiful Chateau doing my Helpx.
Safe travels,
Rapha
Thank you very much for the helpx site, looking it over has made me even more excited for everything to come in the future and it seems much more useful than woofer. :)
I really appreciate it.
I'm glad for that, enjoy your trip and give me a shout if you decide come to Europe or maybe Asia =-)

Hello Stephanie,
I have done a tour from Parry Sound, Ontario, Canada to Buffalo, NY from where I took the plane to Orlando, FL to cycle all around the Gulf of Mexico, to Cancun. It was the best I've ever done! I don't think you have to worry about the danger in Florida. My experience has been that Florida is actually somewhat of a cyclist paradise compared to many other places and also otherwise very secure. I have couch surfed in Panama City and in Destin.
Not sure where you're headed, but don't be shy to look me up if you're in Edmonton, AB. Also check out my friend Tony De La Torre (he's on Facebook as "the panamerican guy". He is on a trip from Alaska to Argentina and about to sail to Columbia on a boat this Friday (you can't travel there by road).
Before my trip I did a lot of research on the internet and found "Ken Kifer's Bike Pages" the most useful.
I'm planning a trip from Cancun to Panama myself this winter. Perhaps we'll bump into one another ;)
Happy trails

Your trip sounds like it will be amazing, I really do hope we get to meet, Elif.
Thank you very much, Kevin, I appreciate the offer. Hopefully we will meet up when I get there.
My main concern in Florida is probably due to bad traffic and high crime rate (I was born and raised in Miami, so we have both). Realistically, I doubt the rest of Florida is like this, I have a bit of a bias because of my upbringing (something I'm working to get rid of).
Thank you for your kindness and the the information! I'm immediately googling "Ken Kifer's Bike Pages" :)
I hope we do bump into each other!

I traveled too much with my bicycle in my country and Chile, so if you need an advice, just ask me.
