Just I forgot to say to everyone Happy New Year! And because I was wanting just now to post something (the fisrt post ever in this group) and see how are you all.

Very little jobs going on, but hopefully things will turn better... I was working in Spain for some years in commercial diving and now here in Scotland looking for something better, but things are so so quiet...well you know what I mean, you know how is the market, but I got the feeling that I am getting something soon!

If you feel in the mood, post here how are things wherever you are staying, and what are you doing nowadays.

By the way, if you visit Scotland, give me a shout!

Fernando.

Happy New Year.

I hear Scotland is nice from a co-worker who has been doing the leg-work for some of our in-house training programs. Is there any more work in Scotland compared to Spain?
Work is slow here in the Gulf of Mexico, though it sounds to be looking up when the oil companies start drilling again. Last year most of my company's work was over seas. For now I am involved with my company's training department to help me make ends meet.

Hi Jason,

Gulf of Mexico? Sounds interesting. I would like to go there at some point.

I think definetly there are much more diving work going on in Scotland than Spain. In Spain there are some works going on, but very littles and unfortunely sometimes diving equipments are quite basic... is not very commom there to dive with a KM 37!!, for example.

What say the rest of the group? How are things in the rest of the world? What jobs are you doing?

Hi Fernando!
What's this commercial diving training school in SCotland, I think it's PDA and Underwater centre, right? These guys seem to say that they place their people into getting jobs after they graduate, how does that work? I4m asking you as you are presently there yourself. If you could try to get information about it, would be great mate!!!
Do you need to convert your diving ticket to work offshore England, like with the NDC in Holland for example?
Do you know if it's better to work inland in Holland or in the UK, to get some jobs offshore afterwards?
Cheers boet!!!

hi maximilien,

what u need to go offshore is the BOSIET offshore survival ticket.
and i worked with some guys that did their certs at the underwater centre and they were not placed at all. its really about who you know, like anywhere else..
having done my courses at PDC in south africa, I just got them assessed and recognized by NDC in Holland and will go there around may. have u got any contacts there or hints where to ask for jobs maybe?
cheers mate

Hi!

Aye Maximilien, Danijar is right. I did my courses at the Underwater Centre in Scotland, and they didnt help me at all after graduated. They might tell you that they have a database and they will help you. However all they did is lent me a Directory Company for Commercial Diving. Definetly its who you know.
I have also the BOSIET course. I think they will recognise all your certs as long as you pay a fee everywhere in the world.
In Europe, with IMCA rules, your qualification must be into HSE(UK) standarts or INPP(France).

About jobs here, ... very little at the moment, I moved here 3 months ago, and I didnt manage yet (I didnt know anybody here), but I keep trying and not just here, with internet with other companies out of Scotland.

Definetly I get jobs quite easy in Spain, but I am trying to get out there!

Good luck mates!

Fernando.
