looks like you are starting today,the nicest route would also be hilly going down east of the Rhone valley and going to Sisteron before branching west, otherwise go down through Troyes/Tonnerre/Château Chinon, if you go west of Lyon it will be nice but v hilly, if you go east, there's a historic town near Satolas airport beginning with S and it has a castle and a local pancake speciality. Further east and you could come down through Dijon or go to see Arc et Senans in the Jura foothills,south of lyon,Valence is very nice, but if you stay in the hills east of the Rhône valey, it will be cooler and you can visit Dieulefit (thermal spa town) and Nyons famous for olives, visit Vaison La Romaine at the foot of Mont Ventoux.
