The only way : sterilization of the females. We do this in France and this is efficient : baby cats don't born instead of dying.
But for this, veterinaries must do it for cheap or free. We could campaign for it.
Otherwise, the minimum is to feed them as much as we can.

We have a veterinarian: BBÇ Vet in Ataşehir. The owner is in the US at the moment, will come back in mid-April. We could talk to him. If I remember correctly, the procedure is 200 TL for males and 450 TL for females (cat) - 250 and 500 for dogs, male and female respectively. I just talked to them and they said they could make about 40-50% on street animals. If he accepts, we could get an extra discount.

hey,
just have seen the msgs here, I am working for the ministry of agriculture and rural affairs in Caddebostan, we have a vet there, but should check the prices by asking and could ask for what could be done for the street survivors. as far as i know we give the feed counter analysis samples that we got from import department(where i work) to some official animal shelters around istanbul.
thats all for now!
keep me informed

All goverment shelters have to do this for free but i have to say; those places are not the greatest. So you shouldn't just take a stray animal and leave it in their care. Even if they say they'll take care of it, don't.
You should call or visit the place beforehand and ask when the best time is for the procedure so you won't have to leave the animal there. You should also wait there during surgery or pick the animal up yourself when it's done. I have seen things, trust me. A perfectly health dog can end up dead after being fixed at a shelter. They usually don't provide after surgery care. I've seen animals just dumped on a concrete floor, still not awake from surgery without anyone checking up on them for days.
I think a cheap and responsible private vet is a better choice at this matter.

hey özlem! I really liked your comment - and as you are a veterinary you might know the places where propper work is done quite well..in the end we have to get the sterilization not only for a few chosen cats but for many - how could we afford that? lets try to find a solution..and not finish at that point.
