Dog on my roadtrip
Posted September 22nd, 2011 - 12:12 am by from Breda, Netherlands (Permalink)
Hi Guys,
I am on a roadtrip. Just travelled from NY to SF and now travelling back in a few months. I'm planning/wants to buy a dog from a kennel in LA. Just to give him a good life and have fun with it, cause I love dogs.

But is it good to travel with a dog? Can somebody tell me some experience? Hope to hear some.

Regards, Freek

Many people will tell you not to do it. I would do it, in fact I have done it. I loved it. People got really mad at me for even thinking about it but I don't regret it at all. I will do it again in the future. If you call me I'll give you lots of specific advice about how I've traveled.

You need to make couch requests in advance and let them know you have a dog. Some will say no. Learn to do really good requests and you won't have too big of a problem.

Motel 6's accept dogs.

Please don't buy a dog from a kennel or breeder. Please adopt a dog from a humane shelter and then make sure to spay or neuter your pet and get it all the shots it needs. You can pick a puppy and a breed; there are tons of choices. Save a dogs life!

I recommend a yellow, chocolate, or black lab since they are flexible, get along well with other humans and dogs, can hike and do physical things like backpacking, rafting, kayaking, stand up paddle boarding, traveling, etc. A little dog can't take that type of thing.

Also, please only do it when you have time to train it or otherwise you will never be able to go anywhere with it! I can give you lots of advice on training. Check out my profile reviews; my dog is super well-behaved (although it had a bad week last week, it turns out the poor girl was just sick and now she's feeling better and is much more obedient again).
