Living communily in the irish countryside

Reading your introduction message to this group, it sounds very familiar to us.
My partner Jimi and I have moved out to the countryside about a year ago with the intension to live closer to nature, grow our own food, live more sustainably. We are very social people and from the beginning when we first got here we talked about creating a place for and with people. We took on some wwoofers last summer, which worked okay. We had a difficult time this winter, felt very isolated (nearest town is 15km away), we both don't do the normal going to work thing,so spend almost every hour of the week out here.
So with the irish weather, rain, damp, cold, it can be pretty hard. We are people who get stimulated by having people around, engaging in creative projects.
So we are thinking the idea of joining up with a few more people could be a good idea. The place where we live is just very beautiful and we believe it can (it has already) work for a number of people sharing, living simply.
We'd be interested in other perspectives and some advice on how to find the right people to come and share the land with us.

Happy spring to everyone. Franzi

Hi Franzi,

I suggest to place a posting in ic.org in Ireland(it's free!). Also, they have something called reachbook, where it's intended for telling everyone about your land for a community.

It will take a little bit of figuring on how you would like your community to run with amounts of people and types of people you are looking to attract, what kind of temporary and permanent membership you'd like to have, what vision do you hold, etc, etc.

I've found that it can be a bit hard to get people to come long term and that also fit with you. But, advertising helps and then you can screen the people that email you and go from there.

Hi dan.
thanks for the helpful reply. Yeah, it's always important to get it "out there" and to let people know. Anything else can come from that.will check out the website you suggested. Many thanks. Franzi
