This was such a fun group and now is isn't. 'Wish that things could go back to the way they were. Great you found it on the internet, although you could have found it a year ago in this very group, currently a few threads further down where it was posted before it found its way into the wiki ;-) http://www.couchsurfing.org/group_read.html?gid=45507&post=10527276 Keep spreading the facts, in the language of your choice (see wiki). The "fact" seems to be that after the existence of Better World Through Travel, Inc. was revealed the name was changed to CouchSurfing International, Inc. again and that that company is legally a C-Corporation with a B-Corporation label obtained from B-Lab for a fee. The official legal status available in California and a handful of other U.S. states, but which CouchSurfing decided not to choose, is "BENEFIT CORPORATION". I'd leave "Benefit Corporation", which CS is not, out of any communication. It is too complicated a matter for most people to understand. The important fact is that CouchSurfing International, Inc., the company which runs the website, is legally a for profit C-Corporation like Microsoft and Coca Cola, and until CS proves the contrary, has the legal obligation to maximize shareholder value. Note also that all references to "B-Corp" and "social responsability" have been dropped from the terms of use and all communication. |
