Location: The Couchsurfing Project >> We are against CS becoming a for-profit corporation Strange Fake accounts appearing
Hi guys, it seems that some fake accounts is now being made to attract people on facebook, needless to say they are account of nice girls (with 0 friends and references) made in 5 minutes with strange couchrequests like : " le'ts chat on facebook, i will be very happy". for example http://www.couchsurfing.org/profile.html?city_couchrequest=1123362&id=12HIVG3P things like this never showed up before the alliance between facebook and couch$tealing. I confirm, a couple of weeks ago I got a really impersonal and quite obviously random request to "hang out" (or something to that effect) from a girl ... who didn't seem to be travelling or anything. I'm still not used to this new CS. So if I post an open couchrequest people from that city will be able to see it or only if they open my profile? I think she sums her profile up nicely herself in her personal description: "I am easygoing, trustworthy and very irrelevant!" Not just irrelevant, but VERy irrelevant it seems :) This member profile has been deactivated This member has chosen to allow only Couchsurfing members to see their group posts. Im not so sure its fake, it seems to be the same greek girl as this one; https://www.facebook.com/aspa.boul - shes just not using the medium as you or me would. However, the comment left by http://www.couchsurfing.org/people/justwatching/ i find totally unexceptable. Or are you in your worlds guilty untill proven innocent? When did this become the "We are for helping CS make more profit by removing fake profiles" group? This member has chosen to allow only Couchsurfing members to see their group posts. "you need to stop logging on altogether since you are helping CS by giving them traffic, which supports the changes they have made to the site. "Since, unless you are a hypocrite, I won't see you again, it was nice knowing you." ;-) So if I join the picket line at the Walmart, I am just giving Walmart free publicity? However if I go in the store and work for free for management, I am showing I'm not a "hypocrite"? Sort of like, "be a pacifist; join the army" Polyglot has arguably done more to inform people of the malfeasance of CS management than anyone else. I think you are capable of finding a better target. That profile does seem fake, but they've done their homework, it's very much within the standard CS format. But who would be creating fake profiles, and why? Is anyone aware of a massive CS campaign somewhere to get people to sign up? All of a sudden, my city group is crowded by messages from people who registered 1-2 weeks ago. Weird. "my city group is crowded by messages from people who registered 1-2 weeks ago." If you still have a city group, judge yourself lucky. If this is about a "Place", that's normal, and if they are somewhat related messages rather than couch requests, again, you are lucky. Other "Places" are cluttered with couch requests from people who signed up 1-2 days ago and want to be hosted for Christmas or New Years' Eve.
