Message of HOPE!
Hello CSers around the world!!!
I am an active member of the Maltese CS community, also maintain the most active CS group in Malta, The Malta Cooking Group. Together with many other we organize a monthly cooking event, many locals and travelling CSers attend these events, which more often than not, turn out to be successful parties. I must admit that it gives me a huge personal satisfaction, getting people together to celebrate life, diversity & love.
The last event organized was last Friday 19th April. It was held at a magnificent location on the west coast of the island at Golden Bay on the cliffs next to a 500 year old coastal tower. This location is famous for its colourful sunsets.
On Friday some 20 people turned out just in time to watch the sun go down over the Mediterranean Sea. It was like magic watching the skies changing colours while the sun slowly disappeared over the horizon. In fact the event was called Sunset BBQ, there were new people that joined us and some good old faces, all of them were happy smiling people.
The event kicked off at 7 pm and the party started immediately. I was cooking; people were drinking, chatting and taking photos!!! Soon after it was dark the event turned into a nightmare! The joyful atmosphere was broken when one of us disappeared...
Dennis is a Dutch CSer who has moved to Malta some three months ago. His vibrant, energetic friendly attitude made him a great addition to the local CS community. On Friday, Dennis was with us, at one point Dennis fell off the cliffs, over seven storeys high. He fell off the cliffs hitting huge boulders of rocks, stopping just few meters away from the sea. In 10 minutes the police were on site along with the local Civil protection Department, an Emergency Medical Unit, and rescue personnel from the Armed Forces of Malta. After two hours, he was air-lifted by a helicopter to hospital where he is still fighting for his life. He has suffered multiple head injuries, broken ribs and a broken neck.
The aim behind this message is to ask you to send a message of HOPE to Dennis. It will be greatly appreciated if the Couchsurfing Community comes together to give support, love and hope to our companion. So in the near future (hopefully soon) when he will be able to read your messages & cards he can feel loved and supported by the whole CS community around the world.
I will be eagerly waiting for your response to this call for ‘A message of hope’.
