I spent more then 40 days traveling on my motorcycle this past summer and spent most nights sleeping in my hammock. Couch Surfing is alright but it takes too much time to find people's housing and to plan ahead.
I even try to stay away from parks as well - neighbors can be loud, ect.
You can camp in any National Forest for free. Sometimes I'll park at a trail head and hike in a little bit. Usually I try to camp next to my bike, Rivers are usually good places to find a spot.
I always remind myself that I'm not setting up shop - all I'm looking for is a place where no one will bother me for 8 hours. But ya, out of all my nomadic camping - no ones given me any trouble... (thus far)
