Car share
I am anticipating that we may need to arrange car sharing. If you are driving to the Dordogne or if you are hiring a car and have space in your car to accommodate others over the weekend for visits around the region please can you provide details below. Likewise if you don't think you'll have transport please can you also indicate below. If you are in the latter group you will need to plan how you are getting from the airport. (See the train connections to Perigueux, in the 'Travelling to the Dordogne' thread.)
Please can you arrange cost sharing for car shares between yourselves ;)
Viz -
We have a car and can accommodate X.
We will be arriving by train and so will not have access to transport
first a few IF's...
IF 1st half of April will be chosen
IF it will be in Dordogne (France)
IF a nice couple of this group is surfing with us that period and trust me as their chauffeur
IF a member of the Istanbul gang can take free those days
... my car will be full ;-)
IF some of the mentioned above can't join me during the ride for whatever reason, I have 1, 2 or 3 seats free :-)
Too bad Pol won't be able to join :-(

I shall rent a car in Bordeaux so I may offer a ride.
Roger
Roger,
Day and time you are arriving?

Becky and all
It's not yet defined but I'll probably arrive in Europe the 21st May in Amsterdam. And probably enter France via Toulouse. I shall stay 3 weeks in my trip and I think it has around several interesting places reachable as day trips by train.
I will rent a car so it will be available to carry people around during the meeting.
Actually the only thing certain I have is a two night stay in a cisticercian abbey in Cadouin May 2-3.
Up to now I am interested in visitig:
- around the site of the meeting: Sarlat, Eyzies, Lascaux, Périgueux
- near Brive: Collones, Turenne, Rocamadour
- near Toulouse: Montauban, Albi, Carcassone, Castres
I'd appreciate suggestions and remarks from those who already know the region.
Roger
PS I have found the existence of gîtes d'étape which provide easy and cheap lodging while driving around.
Also that rent is very cheap: 10 days of a simple car seem to cost less than 200 euros in Toulouse. I used rentalcars.com or something like.
Addendum:
Of course the trips around the site of the meeting should follow whatever schedule the group find appropriate. I think it would be nice to have a common program of travelling around the weekend.
Roger
I'd love a ride, but I'll be there in April.
Cherie
I've already rent a car. I will be around St Pardoux from 25th April to 2nd May. And will have 3 places free for carrying people around. But I won't be coming from Bordeaux but from Toulouse/Cahors.
Roger
Roger,
May I ride with you? I'm happy to pay my share of the rental fee and petrol.
I'll be arriving at the gathering on the 25th.
Cherie
OK Cherie, it would be a pleasure if you ride with me. But I think there will be several people and cars around and the sharings will more likely depend on:
- where people will be lodging, those lodging at the same place should share the same cars - I'll probably be lodging in Tourtoirac 8 km from St Pardoux d'Ans, others in Cubjac etc
- whether during the meeting we will be travelling around and together or not (in Istanbul each day there were different options each day to chose but perhaps in Dordogne we will have common activities around)
- personal tastes, like people who likes more to be in movement (like me), or stay more in one same place; who likes shopping and those who doesn't (like me), and so on
So I can give you preference but perhaps it would be more practical to assign places in cars more dinamically adapting to the situations at hand.
Unless for those that are really travelling together and sharing the transport I imagine that the occupancy of cars would vary from day to day and even in different parts of the day.
As for paying I think people MAY contribute with some expenses like fuel and tolls but I don't want to share the rent - imagine the car as it were my private car with which I can give rides to dear friends.
Cheers,
Roger
Roger,
You are so kind.
Thank you for your willingness to transport me, IF we're going to the same place.
We are SO on the same side re: shopping. I only do it if I have to for survival purposes (food, household supplies, cat supplies, etc.).
I've just started looking for lodgings for the meet-up. Not sure where I'll be. No one has contacted me, so I'll start contacting them.
With something like this, experience is invaluable: your summation of the Istanbul trip is priceless, and makes complete sense.
Thanks again!
Cherie

Marion,
You missed more than that, now I am going to Toulouse, not Bordeaux. But we shall meet after all...
Anyway there's one car more for sharing at St Pardoux.
