Claudia, Jo
Just in case you didn't see the post in the France thread in 50+ :)
Where:
France was suggested a few times as a possible location and so Richard and I volunteered the Dordogne. We have a holiday home in the area and so we could host a few people with the possibility of nearby gites / chambre d'hotes if needed.
When:
We started this thread so that those interested could add their names and preferred dates - consensus was the last weekend in April.
What to see etc:
The region is known for its chateaux - many with gardens
There are many prehistoric sites including the famous Lascoux cave paintings
Wine regions are nearby
The area has more than its share of the 'most beautiful villages in France'.
The area is known for its gastronomy.
I plan to suggest day and half day itinereraries with meet up in the evenings for meals, socialising etc.
Practicalities:
We can host ~ 10 (on a first come, first served basis). I am contacting local gites etc and will post details in the new sub group.
The Dordogne is *very* rural so we need to ensure that there are sufficient car spaces and drivers. Hopefully, we can group by vehicle and those in the group can agree their itinerary for the day between themselves. For this reason there will not be an official 'programme' per se.
Ps: A number of people have emailed me and I will get back to you. I'm working away at the moment so only have access to email / internet late in the evening -and via my mini tablet which is not the easiest thing to type on :)
