Location: People >> CS For All Ages >> 50s+ Travellers >> April 2013 France Meet Up Headcount
If you are DEFINITELY coming to the CS50+ France meeting, please can you add your name to this thread AND add your details to the google docs spreadsheet (see link below). In particular, I need: 1. Names of those attending 2. Accommodation arrangements and approximate location of your accommodation 3. How you will be travelling to the Dordogne (e.g. flying into Paris CDG and taking the train to Perigueux via Angouleme etc., driving in our own vehicle etc) 4. Arrival date / time 5. If you have space in your car for others, the number of spaces available. PLEASE NOTE. I have said this before but it bears repeating. The Dordogne is a VERY rural location with virtually no public transport. Distances between tourist sites are big. If you are not driving to the region in your own vehicle, we strongly recommend you hire a car. If you do not have access to a vehicle it is YOUR responsibility to arrange a lift from other participants (sharing fuel costs of course!) http://ow.ly/gmbCZ This member has chosen to allow only Couchsurfing members to see their group posts. I will be spending a total of two weeks in France. I will be travelling with Shaeryl and Catherine from Toronto. I would like to fly into Bordeaux and out of Paris. Travel plans are still up in the air but I would like to purchase my tickets on Air France soon. Judy I would like to fly in to Bordeaux on 25th and leave a week later. I don't drive so would be looking to share car hire costs with someone good enough to give me a lift! Anne This member has chosen to allow only Couchsurfing members to see their group posts. I think it would be a great opportunity to meet so many of you. I have never been to Europe before (save England, 35 years ago), so I would love some help in making transport and accommodation arrangements. I am happy to share costs of either with folks. More later as I sort this out. Please let me know directly if you have ideas for me. Thanks! Cindy Well, Cindy, now that you might go, I might go, too. I've wanted to meet you for months! I haven't been to Europe before either, and felt I might be a little lost going on my own to the meet up, but if I could tag along with you...???? I'd take Icelandair Seattle-Reykjavik for a day or two, then on to France from there (good airfare rates that way). I already have an offer from a CSer in Iceland, so that really helps pave the way, too. We could meet up in Reykjavik... What do you think? Cherie I so wanted to go but I won't be able to make it to this meet up. Please post pictures and remarks so I can enjoy vicariously! Regrets, Deborah Oh...I wish you could have come, too, Deborah. Would you be able to attend a USA get together? Cherie Bought my ticket today on Air France from JFK to BOD, Bourdeaux. Very excited for this trip. Arriving on Thursday,April 25. Judy Wahoo! Looking forward to meeting you! Cindy and I arrive at 11:42 AM in Bordeaux...our connecting train leaves at 12:35PM. From la Bordeaux to la Dardogne, I'd prefer a car trip with others, yet Cindy and I feel the necessity to get to the rental as early in the day as possible to "take residence" for the following 4 days of enjoyment. Cherie Cherie I am assuming your train is to Perigeuex. How are you getting to the house from there? As I am arriving on Saturday I will probably have to get a cab and it would be useful to know if you have any numbers & how much it will cost. Really looking forward to meeting the owners of the faces, Anne Anne: Richard has offered to come to the train station in Perigueux to pick us up. It's about an hour away from their house. He's apparently picking up other folks too. You may want to talk to him. What time do you get into Bordeaux on the 27th? Maybe someone with a car would make a side-trip of it that day to see Perigueux and pick you up?! Cindy We won't be able to pick up people from the station on Saturday as our car is being used to transport people to Sarlat - which is quite a distance from Perigueux. Unfortunately, there are quite a few people who don't have transport so it's not possible for us to take people to events and pick up from the railway station at the same time. Anne, It's my understanding that Kathie and her husband can pick us up at the train station. Cherie Cherie, we can pick up on Friday but we can not pick up on Saturday - not unless 5 people are happy to miss the Saturday activities. Kathie I thought we were arriving the 25th...that's Thursday. Cherie Can you pick up on Thursday? Cherie Yes, I've conirmed with Cindy that we will pick you up :) This member has chosen to allow only Couchsurfing members to see their group posts. To see this full converstion, sign up or log in. Yes, this is a time where I've definitely wished that it was possible to send PMs on CS to more than one person at a time (copying, forwarding etc.). That's why I've switched to email for many converations... Later refinements perhaps. Where's the suggestion box for CS? I also wish they had sorting such that you could see just one person's postings all lined up in one place to avoid the hunting around one has to do. Thanks, Kathie! Kathy, I will be present \0/ I am here admiring how much work you folks have done to organize this meeting! Thanks and congratulations! Now, let´s fill the spreadsheet. Emi. This member has chosen to allow only Couchsurfing members to see their group posts. To see this full converstion, sign up or log in. Friends: This group is growing daily! What a fantastic opportunity to meet so many folks and see a beautiful part of the world. Ah, it's the infamous Toronto Gang you'll be meeting! And yes, my iPad and a few translating apps will be at the ready because my school-room French of forty years ago is almost non-existant. But I'm also using teaching apps to get French back in my head a bit, and I have great food-term apps loaded as well (Patricia Wells has a nice one). It would be great if folks put their after-party plans on the spreadsheet so that we can see if people are going our way. I know that Cherie is looking to go back to Paris on the 30th to catch a plane and Becky is looking for travelling companions afterward as well. I, too, Cadence, would like to eat something, anything French. I'm going to eat the whole country. Thanks, and it will be a pleasure to meet all of you. Cindy I'm with you re: the excitement factor, Cadence. REALLY looking forward to seeing YOU again, even if we have to go half way around the world to! Cindy inspires me daily: she does hours of research, then asks me what I think. Since I'm working 6 days a week, she's been a lifesaver, and I know my vacation will be great because of all of her time spent in making it so. When we meet up, should we wear name tags with our real name, our screen name, and country of origin? I get confused with people's REAL names and their screen names, and often think of people by where they're from. Cherie This member has chosen to allow only Couchsurfing members to see their group posts. To see this full converstion, sign up or log in. ...hello, i'm with you on the name tag idea, not my cup of tea...have you looked at helpx.net for the ideal getaway from it all?...see you soon, amanda... The spreadsheet link in the first posting on this page is a fantastic way for us to indicate our travel plans, and anyone one can edit it. Can you post the link in other places, too? thank you Cindy for pointing out that a spreadsheet exists. I was not aware of it. I think this will help with planning, as the many , many postings on the various threads was beginning to become a bit too much and very scattered. Perhaps the owner of this group could fix some of the messages like the one that tells about the spreadsheet in order for everyone be aware of its existence. Maybe other messages could merit be fixed in the beginning of the threads. BTW the spreadsheet is a very good instrument, congratulations, Kathie. Roger I am interested in this meeting up prior to my Camino In Portugal. I was hoping to see some local French couch surfers in the gatherings. It seems to be mostly surfers from other countries. My experience has been the greatest value in a CS visit is the local host contribution. I CS'd in Aix En Provence last summer with one of the most active CS host in France.(his profiles has over 129,000 views!) Perhaps he can provide some names of locals who can add to the gathering. I will stay posted. Nice remarks, Ken. One of the gatherers is from a city very near the meeting place. And another one lived there for 3 years and was a guide there. BTW, there are several chemins de compstelle in France. I shall cross one of them in Cahors and perhaps will stop later in Moissac - staying probably in lodgings for pilgrims there. Cheers from Rio, Roger This member has chosen to allow only Couchsurfing members to see their group posts. To see this full converstion, sign up or log in. I've wanted to meet you for so long, Sheryl! Cherie @Cadence: I will be delighted to just be in your presence! @Cherie: When we meet up, should we wear name tags with our real name, our screen name, and country of origin? I get confused with people's REAL names and their screen names, and often think of people by where they're from. I agree! tags with name (the one we sign the posts) + country will be very useful, especially the first days. I can bring some fabric to make colourful tags...ehehe Wonderful, Emi I think it will be helpful. What do the rest of you think? Cadence, there is a way for the group moderator to make some threads to be fixed on top of the list. That is what I was referring to. The message you proposed would be one of these, as the first one. The group moderator (Kathie) may also create group guidelines that are on the top right of the group but I think they are less visible. Cheers! I agree that name tags should be optional. I'll be wearing one so people can identify me, and call me by my correct name, and hopefully remember my various posts and pictures from CS 50 +. I have TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury), and I'll forget the name of my best friend, but I'll remember a face forever. ;D Cherie This post has been removed by the user. So cool! So we meet up in Paris? Can't wait! How are you getting to France? Cherie No, Cherie... I guess I should have been a little more specific. I fly into Bordeaux, getting in at 10:30 AM. That should give me time to get from the airport to the train station (I hope) and catch the 12:30 train with you and Cindy to Perigueux. I also hope I'll be able to hitch a ride with Richard to the house. I'll send a message to Kathie and Richard. Becky Got it! Looking forward to our meet up. Cherie This member has chosen to allow only Couchsurfing members to see their group posts. To see this full converstion, sign up or log in. I too would like to know the plans of those that will be remaining after the weekend and would like to see more of the Dordogne area. As for myself, I will be leaving the rented house (Cindy's) on Tuesday, although I could leave on Monday if it works out better. I would like to see more of the area around Sarlat and also the Bergerac area. By Friday night (May 3) I need to be either in Bordeaux, or very close, for a Sat. morning flight. If anyone is interested in seeing more of the Dordogne area let me know and we can begin making plans. (Airbnb?) I'd like to get this done sooner rather than spending valuable time while there planning and researching. Becky randb65@aol.com If any are staying on afterwards then some of us plan to go to Oradour-sur-Glane (the Martyr village) on the Tuesday. http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Attraction_Review-g187159-d304759-Reviews-Oradour_sur_Glane_old_town-Limoges_Haute_Vienne_Limousin.html Marion, I think the tool for maintaining this kind of information centralized is the spreadsheet. My entry there is as complete as I can do right now. Roger |
