Some of us are arriving before the 26th and staying beyond the 29th, so it may only work for some folks! Jo, Not being able to read French, but are you saying that it is not available UNTIL the 26th? and not available AFTER the 29th? Becky If this is a repeat I'm sorry. AOL returned one of my emails to this site. I think it was this one in which I am asking Jo if there are links to a website so that we might see pictures of this place she has found or if the owner might be able to send her some pics. I'd like to consider this before Cindy signs the contract for the place she found. If this has more bedrooms then it would be better for all of us. I've been following the conversation only loosely today because I was out of town. I'm very happy to do whatever the group decides -- if there is a better place to be had, I haven't signed anything yet. But please include me in whatever we end up doing or I'll be homeless in Dordogne!!!!! (If you see a middle-aged woman with her thumb out you'll know it's me!) I haven't had a chance to fully read the translation of the contract Susan did, but I'm wondering if there is a clause saying that I can sign the contract, make a deposit but cancel the whole thing 30 days before or something -- I vaguely recall seeing something like that. Let's keep talking. I have the reservation through at least the 6th of February (although that doesn't account for the couple of days it might take to wire money...) I'll read everything more thoroughly tomorrow. Thanks guys. Cindy This member has chosen to allow only Couchsurfing members to see their group posts. To see this full converstion, sign up or log in. So what's the status of anyone's communication with the owner (grandchamp) of the other house? I'm a bit suspicious only because from what I can see in his CS profile he has no friends but only seems to be trying to rent (rather than share) the house he owns. Am I reading it right? My french is non-existant, but I don't see any couchsurfing activity here. I'm going to talk to Susan when she gets a chance to call me to know what the latest is from the landlady of the house I found -- I understand that a Saturday to Friday rental is more advantageous to the owner but we're trying to arrive in Dorgogne on Thursday (the 25th) so that we won't be arriving on Friday when undoubtedly our hosts Richard and Kathie will be busy and not as available to pick us up from the train station. Argh! Tell me this is easier the second time one does it... From what I have been able to gather he is a real estate agent. So I am wondering if he owns the house or if it belongs to someone else. (yes, it would have been helpful if I had taken French in high school). Here's why I am a little suspicious of this place. I contacted him through CS and inquired about the possibility of us either CSing with him or paying him. He responded to me that the house was rented from April to September. Now, it may be that he didn't want to deal with a non-French person...I don't know. I did all this before Jo discovered him...I received his reply email on Jan. 17th. I was surprised that he had told Jo that it was available. The other problem that we might run into is that they are having spring break in that area at that time. Cindy, Did you find out anymore from the owner of the first house re: the rate discrepancy? This member has chosen to allow only Couchsurfing members to see their group posts. To see this full converstion, sign up or log in. Hi folks. If someone who speaks French can figure out the newest rental housing option, I'm for it. But my gut reaction is that the details are sketchy, at least so far. Any guidance from you guys? I'll let you know what Susan tells me about date options on the one I found after I talk to her. Yves, I read that you had talked with the fellow after I wrote that. I'm trying to follow several strands of thought on several travel topics, and may not be on top of everything at the moment it happens! I've been reading your posts for a couple of years, and it's apparent that you do exist. I look forward to meeting you in person so that there will be full confirmation that you do, indeed exist!!!!!! Thanks for your help with travel details. For those of you to whom I spoke earlier about the contract for a house in Dordogne, Susan is talking to the landlady again to see if we can get the best deal possible. I'll write to everyone when I know more -- in a day or two. Cindy Cindy Thanks again for your work; Susan too. Anne I came across these rentals, if anyone is still looking for accomodations (Roger?) Hi Marion, I'm not sure, but I think that the 75 Euros applies to the cleaning of the apartment that they rent and not to the B&B rooms. But I could be wrong. (wouldn't be the first time, but the second, ha ha) Becky SITTING ON THE FENCE? We have room for you in our house -- join the party! We still have room for at least one more person in the house we've rented 2 km from Kathie and Richards. The more people the lower the cost! Right now it's between $30 and $45 per night per person depending on whether it's a shared room or not. Could be lower. Email Cindy for more information. Serious commitments only, please! Cindy, I am want to join the house and meeting! Next week will give you a conclusive response. Hugs! Emi. This member has chosen to allow only Couchsurfing members to see their group posts.
