Wow, I thought I was joining an active group in their Autumn years, but it looks like they're already into their winter passage. Hey! I'm just getting re-juvenated!! Did a 5-day hitch-hike last year, at 82, and I'm setting up now for several weeks in Europe, come next month. It's all in your head, you guys. I mean your age, and what it does to you. I was one of those who sneered when anyone said that, a few years ago -- and I admit that I have to go a bit easy with things . . . but, hey, I been working on this rejuv stuff for more than a year, now, and IT CAN BE DONE! These are the very times for it. Anyway, this is just a shot to see if there is still any life in this group. This member has chosen to allow only Couchsurfing members to see their group posts. I've been hosting for years & am now considering surfing myself. You've inspired me ,though I think my hitch hiking days are over. I would be happy to host you if Scotland features in your next itinerary. Good Luck. Leeanna It was good to get your response, Leeanna. Nice to see there is 'still life' in the old Autumn Years group. As a matter of fact, I might even be going through Glasgow or very near to it. But it's to visit a good and long-time-not-seen friend in Castle Douglas, so I'm not likely to have any free time for further visiting. But I certainly do appreciate the invitation, and I wanted to let you know. I encourage you to get out and about, yourself. It does wonders for one's 'sense of life'. Take care... Irv I just turned 60 and at first was annoyed at the number but have since started a rejuvenaton plan which included having a book published, losing 65 pounds and Zumba dancing. I feel great and have always loved to travel. Just went to Paris for the first time last year and climbed the Notre Dame tower 400 steps. and with a bum kneee aloha Maya Well done ! I'm inspired.I'll be 70 next month & I've decided this is the year I must travel along what's ledt of Route 66. Might even have a bash at the Zumba dancing. This is my time of year when such 'blue sky' things turn up for me! Route 66 could be especially interesting, and I'm sure there are CS hosts all along the way. I did make that Euro journey in October, by the way, and it was a real zinger of an adventure. I fully wrote it up in an online newsletter that I do, called Irv's Scrapbook. If any of you want a copy of it just send me an email address and I can forward it. Best to all... Irv Hi Irv, I,d love a copy of your newsletter about your trip. My e-mail address is;- leeannadevlin@gmail.uk. Still hoping to do Route 66 later this year. Will be looking for tips from experienced travellers like yourself. Lang may yer lum reek ! Leeanna Zumba is great but my Havanese dog Chic goes into her crate when she hears the music start. She is supposed to be Cuban. lol Lets be friends. I am going on a book tour to Europe and am trying to do it on very little money early Septmember. UK, France and Andalucia. Me ke aloha Maya I just uploaded a pic of Chic, check her out. I adopted her from a show dog breeder. She's retired. Isn't that a hoot. I can't afford to. lol Hi Leeanna, Hope you make it to the U.S. and get to do the Route 66 trip. I live in St.Louis, Missouri and have just done the route close to my area. Have always wanted to do the whole thing....as you say what's left of it. If you come through St.Louis you are more than welcome to check with me for a couch to surf on. Would love to meet you. Happy traveling! Barb Milligan We're all as busy as you are Irv. I went backpacking around Thailand last year, earlier this year I went through Bangkok, flew to Phnom Penh, then by bus to the coast, boat to a beautiful island, Koh Rong. I'm going back again in June, backpacking this time. I have so much fun, meet so many great people and find a wealth of experience that, for various reasons (unclear to me now) seemed closed to me when I was young - old, free and single, you can't beat it! Well, I'm glad to hear that, Dawn! I can't seem to get untangled from Seattle this year. Turning 85, of course, puts a bit of a different spin on it . . . but I'm still angling to get a bit of rail movement in, before this year is out. Not sure if I could make it by thumb again; but . . . who knows? Never say never, is my motto. And, hey! I've already decided to start going back the other way . . . becoming 83 this year, instead of 85. Irv I take my hat off to you Mr. Thomas, sir. Such indomitable spirit is to be saluted. Yes, these entanglements can be like fetters round your ankles, I hope you manage to get your train journey on the tracks, it seems to me the best plan is to keep moving. Now that my son lives in Asia, the drive to get up and go there is very strong, it's a great feeling, makes me feel like the years are going backwards too. |
