Hi Megan, my name is Brian. I'm going to be in Europe around the same time as you! I'll be there in February, and my first stop is Ireland. I've got a Eurail pass which allows me to take trains around much of Europe. It's a costly venture up front, but in the long run my research has shown that it's worth it. Where are you planning on traveling to? For how long?
hey brian!
as i stated previously i have done NO planning! what are your plans thus far? where are you planning on going, how long, what is your estimated cost? i have sooooo many questions! let me know...thanks!

Hey Megan, hope your New Years was great! I'm sure you, like myself, are getting more excited by the day now.
I have some must-do's (places to go/sights to see/experiences to behold), but for most parts of my trip I haven't any detailed plans. I've seen that contacting the potential host for a visit works best if it's two-three weeks out from the time of arrival, which is still a little while from now:(. What I know thus far is that I will be arriving in Dublin from San Fran on Monday, March 10th. About a week or two there and then I'll hop over to the UK for a brief visit. My route of travel will roughly be from there to the Netherlands and proceeding East all the way to the Czech Republic (making sure to go through Luxembourge/Germany/Poland along the way). At that time without any major interruptions it should be around May. From there it's South through Austria and Switzerland to France and finally ending up in Spain or Portugal at the end of June/July. I'd love to see Italy and Greece as well as parts of North Africa (Morocco for some possible volunteer time).
I'll be fully mobile with modes of living (backpack containing tent, small cooking stove, sleeping bag), while making sure to utilize this wonderful organization and hooking up with other surfers around Europe. My Eurail pass is good for three months with unlimited travel between 20 countries (most expensive part of my trip so far costing around $1400).
Luckily a couple of good friends of mine completed roughly the same trip last year and so they've been a great source of information on a lot of the questions I had. PLEASE feel free to ask me anything, and if I don't know the answers off hand I'll be sure to ask them for you. By learning from their mistakes, I'll be saving a ton of money (eating/getting around without rails). Planes are also a pretty affordable form of transportation between great distances. Anyways, it may seem like I'm not too organized or lacking an actual plan, but it's kinda how I've always worked and I can't wait to start the adventure! Best of luck!

Brian,
You truly are fantastic! Thank you so very much for your in depth responses...they are really calming my nerves in the planning process. Well it looks like I will be postponing my trip to October (tentatively). I have some other travel plans earlier in the year as well as my younger brother graduation in early June! Thank you again for all of your help i will definitely be keeping in touch and possibly be asking many more questions. I wish nothing but the best of luck on your traveling adventures!!!
