Asia

I can only pick one place in Asia to plan a visit; for my family of 4. (no surfing this trip) This is our once in a life time trip to experience Asia. Let's say 5 days of actual touring. Where would you suggest? Should we check out tours or just use our guide books? We are talking July 2012, so I have time to explore. The decision has to be made by March though. Thanks!

you really need to give people a better idea of what you like to see and do. Also check and see when the monsoon season is where you want to go, when is very important. If for only 5 days, I would suggest Bali, wonderful beaches, decent food, english spoken widely, great temples and a very high culture with a lot of performances. also outstanding arts and crafts. If you go to Bali do not miss spending a couple days in Ubud.

I also think Bangkok would be great but i think with the political unrest and flooding, it would not be great to go now.

Beijing has a lot to offer and is relatively in expensive. You can spend a whole day at the forbidden city and the summer place.

Kyoto Japan is fantastic if you like architecture and art. The city is so full of wonderful places to visit and good food, but its quite expensive. A cheaper alternative would be Hong Kong, great shopping and some interesting sights and good food.

Hope that helps. Lived in Japan for 2 years and travelsd for 5 months after I left Japan.

Hong Kong.

Fantastic by itself.

Access to China, with Shenzhen across the border and Shanghai a short flight or a long train ride away.

Macau, just across the bay -- a world-class interesting and unique place.

Be in touch for details -- I just got back.
