(français en bas)

I expect to be at home most of the summer and would welcome guests.

My couch may be interesting to you if you:

(1) prefer town life to big city life
(2) like walking in the countryside
(3) are interested in Welsh life and culture

We are about 30km (45 min by train) from Cardiff.

(The limit of 2 persons applies to individual travellers - not families.)

Eddy

Eddy

Dear Helga Thank you very much for the information you gave me. This was my very first post on this site (but not my last). My daughter is coming over tomorrow (age 26) so I will get her to help me fill out my profile and post pictures of Dave and me. Thank you so much, and yes Germany is one of the places we would love to visit.

Good job on your profile.
We personally do not want someone coming late and leaving early the next day. That makes us feel used. We prefer 2 nights so as to get to know a person...preferably with emails back and forth ahead of time. We are not looking for an instant best friend, but do like to get to know people.
To me it is more about the experience than the saving of money and we generally take our hosts out to eat.
I think you'll do fine!

I would love to take my hosts out for dinner at a restaurant of their choice. What a lovely idea to experience local culture. Getting to know people is the best part of travelling! Do you bring also a host/hostess gift? Would it be appropriate to bring wine or Canadian Maple Syrup?

When I travel in Europe, I bring a Minnesota quarter. Somebtimes I bring ingredients to cook a meal there. I think syrup, or anything from your area-even a postcard would be appreciated. If I am out walking, I buy flowers from a stand. The thought is more important than the monetary amount. Just be your respectful self and I am sure you will do fine..

thanks Helga for the advice. I think joining this group was a terrific idea since so many people have welcomed me to the sight with a great deal of helpful advice. We are planning a trip to England next year (possible Wales) and who knows the year after!!!1

I did this for the first time - and it worked very well - a gentleman from your country (from Kiel).

As you say the majority of surfers are young - and clearly not attracted to off-the-beaten path-places. Unfortunately the "invite to host system" isn't well focussed. Some of the people are making requests for places fairly far away.
