Read the job description below carefully including the compensation package. CouchSurfing is a non-profit organization dependent on member donations and verifications for a modest revenue. This requires that CouchSurfing set the salaries for all of our full-time positions very low compared to industry standards. At the same time, the job demands are very high, and the chosen candidate can expect to put in 40+ hours per week and to work 6 days per week. The positions will be a labor of love requiring a great dedication to the community and to helping build a better world though the CouchSurfing mission. However, it will also be an amazing opportunity for adventure.

The candidates must speak fluent English, but may reside in any nation. Finally, this is a salaried at-will position according to US law. Lead Software Architect

Summary:

Reports To: Technology Team Supervisor
Responsible To: Chief Information Officer
Mission: The Lead Software Architect's mission is to plan and structure the organization's software and to lead the implementation of that plan for the software developer team.

Responsibilities:

Consultation:
  • Advise the CIO on all software issues
  • Advise the Technology Team supervisor on software implementation issues

Strategy:
  • Identify and articulate organizational software needs
  • Plan, develop and implement software solutions
  • Ensure all software systems are complete, correct, and operationally defined
  • Provide ongoing review, evaluation and certification of current software
  • Ensure constant software research & development
  • Plan for future software needs

Lead Architect:
  • Ensure consistent and elegant architecture of all software
  • Ensure speed, efficiency, and robustness of all software and software environments
  • Ensure software planning within constraints and schedule identified by the CIO
  • Identify conceptual subsystems within the entire codebase
  • Plan and implement partitioning of the codebase
  • Identify and interface with all stakeholders for each subsystem or feature set
  • Plan and develop acceptance and quality assurance tests to meet ongoing software specifications
  • Create and supervise processes for identifying and correcting bugs
  • Be the liaison between the User Interface Team and the Technology Team

Lead Developer:
  • Assign partitions or subsystems to appropriate individual developers or developer teams
  • Create planning and architecture documents to be implemented by the developer team
  • Create strategic policies and standards for the development team
  • Set the standard for professionalism and quality for the development team
  • Provide mentoring to the development team
  • Provide feedback of the development team's contributions to the Technology Team Manager


Compensation:

Salary:
  • $24,000 US per year
