This group is archived. It can not be used and is here for historical purposes only.
The purpose of this group was to evaluate and consider possible changes to the CouchSearch default sort ordering, in the context of experimenting with the community decision-making process. The group was successful on both counts: it designed the new CouchSearch sorting algorithm (introduced in May 2007 and still used as of September 2009), and it did so through a participatory community process.
The group is now closed; the community process ended shortly after the new algorithm was deployed, and there is no indication that it will ever be restarted. Therefore, at this point it serves to document the process that led to the sorting algorithm, as well as to provide a description of the algorithm itself (here and here).
Suggestions for improvements to the sorting algorithm can be added to the wiki, or posted to the Couchsearch Modification Group, whose subject matter is a superset of this one. However, do note that neither place can be expected to be tracked by the tech team.
