I decided just a few days before Czechsurfing happened to attend this event and got the great chance to stay with Derek and his Swiss/American flatmate Andrew. Derek himself is a funny and friendly Canadian guy and there is always something to talk or discuss with him. He kindly showed me around Prague, attended the meetings with me and is a great help in making decisions even if I didn't listen to all of his advices what I should have ;) I know he won't visit Vienna before 2010 at the earliest but I would be very happy to host him then.

We met in Prague, chat a bit and had a Czech dinner together :) He's very nice, friendly and talkative guy! It was very nice to meet him and spend some time together!

Derek, don't forget to eat pierogi and drink this SPIZ beer once you get to Wroclaw!

Cool guy, I met him at a meeting in the letna park and he was so kind to offer me his couch, cool!!! A nice guy to drink beer with.

 

A friend and I joined the trip to Kutna Hora Derek was organizing on short notice - he even paid for our train tickets up ahead when we were delayed! Thanks a lot for a good day, even though we had to leave early...

 

Derek led a great day trip to Kunta Hora, a small village outside of Prague. I had a great time. Thanks Derek!

Derek is a fine quality Canadian ;), been seeing him around multiple times, and always had a nice companion for any kind of conversation topics. Cool guy! :)

On the Prague Group site I posted a question about attending a hockey game while visiting. Derek organized everything and before we knew it there 8 of us going to the game and afterward we had a great evening. It was a blast.

Derek is definitely the foremost Canadian hockey authority in Prague at the moment, how many other hockey referees from British Columbia are active in the Czech league otherwise? Would be cool if there were a Czech Republic - Canada national teams match at O2 Arena to go to sometime with Derek :)

I met Derek when I was doing my job interview to work in Prague (june 2008). Now I DO work here, we met another couple of times. Derek seems to be very dedicated to the CS thing!

he hosted me for one day in praha. it was a great time and he had shown me this great biergarten with a huge view over the whole city. when you want to have a nice time and devellope your english at the same time, you have to get to know him ( ah yeah, he showed me somehardcore couchsurfers, i was really impressed)

until you buy him beer you can't be on his contact list.. or is this only coincidence that I bribe for your beer yesterday?? :P

 

My neighbor to the North!! I met Derek in Prague ... we shared some conversation in the biergarten and then watched Spain creme Germany in EuroCup Final 2008. It was brutal:). Taught me that Canadians are apparently practical jokesters. Nice guy!!

We had many many CS meetings. Travelled to Brno and Ceska Skalice together with Prague CS Mafia :) Sometimes he just observes and drinks his beer and sometimes he becomes quite funny. He should spend his life front of TV to have such knowledge he has. His Homer's speech imitations still makes me smile around :)

 

I have met Derek on several occassions (CS meetings and gatherings) and he has always been chatty, friendly and a generally good sport. This guy seems to have a genuinely nice "core".

He's a good egg!

Dedrick was one of the greatest guys I met in Prague. Always ready for anything, made me laugh countless times with his notable sense of humour. A faithful companion for sports watching, beer drinking and friends gatherings.

He is a great person and nice to talk to although sometimes he looks like is thinking about going to the moon lol =)

Really nice guy ! when there is a meeting, he's always on ! I have to meet him again, because it's worth ! so see you soon guy !

Derek and I watched the Canadians kick ass in Pardubice for the World U20 Hockey Championship. He was extremely helpful in organising my trip, full of information and even managed to get some great seats for the games. He is good company and a good guy all round. Thanks Bro!

Derek is a wise and smart guy in so many ways. Not least of all in regards to Praha living and Ice Hockey. A regular meeting attendee, he is a very amiable person.

you can always count on this guy for good christmas and/or birthday gifts.

We met in the pub during christmas time. My town was full of canadians because of Junior World Hockey ChampionShip.

 

I hosted Derek for two days, when he came to the hockey championship of juniors in Pardubice. Together with another guest from canada and two polish girls from Wroclaw, it was great international party. Im looking forward to see Derek on some action in Prague:)

We talked a bit about Ukraine, Canada and Prague. Derek seems to be a nice guy. I'm sure we meet again.

To be in Derek's company is a real treat. Not only is he charming and funny, but also he's a good listener:-)

We already met so many times in Prague that i really had to write here. Sometimes I feel like you too are an ERASMUS, which is, really a good thing. Eheheh. You already know some of them here. All the Jazz concerts meetings and now spending Christmans with you was really cool. Thanks for beeing with us and for sharing this day in our company. You are one of those people always good to have around. I'm sure we will keep meeting much much more times.

Derek is such a nice guy, he's relaxed and really kind. He fetched me a beer from the kitchen when I was too lazy to go there myself. It was a true pleasure to host him.

Derek is really cool! We always bump into each other in Prague (CS meetings, subway, etc). Funny guy, but always complaining that he has to wake up early the next day! Ha ha!

 

We both traveled from different cities to Brno to take part in a nice CS meeting. We were both hosted by lena, talked until early morning (simultaneously drinking vodka or beer). Next day I had also good conversation with him in a train to Slovakia (he needed to furnish something in Kúty). Nice to meeting you Derek.

 

Great time hanging at the club with you but thanks in particular for helping me navigate the late-night trams in Prague. I might still be at the club otherwise...

Really nice guy, fun to talk with and nice to hang out with!We have already met a few times, first in Bratislava and Vienna, then later on in Berlin, hope to see you again somewhere, someday!:)

 

Derek is a good soul in our CS Prague team. I always enjoy to talk with him, as he is good listener and helps me to improve my English.
If you wish to spent a time with somebody who is calm, easygoing, but not boring, he is the right choice.

He is amusing and likes to have fun. Very patient, and so much better because my English is not yet spontaneous!

Unfortunately I don't feel I got to know Derek during his stay at my place. I really tried to be a good host and make his stay pleasant but the only feedback I got was when Derek gave my his reference and it was then the first time that I knew that Derek enjoyed his stay. I would have wished to hear that when he was here, instead I had the feeling that what I did was taken for granted and was something ordinary. Overall I guess he is a nice guy but I imagined couchsurfing to be more about communicationg and taking part in the other person's lives. However he was my first couch surfer I have no way to compare.

 

Derek is a really funny guy, but sometimes not on purpose :P He seems to know really obscure facts...he's like a human Wikipedia.

 

We met Derek at a Prague meeting where beer was widely available which influenced us all while the evening progressed. We had a blast, Derek is a good drunk :) We know now how much beer is in other countries ;)

I met Derek at the Vienna CS meeting. He seems like a nice guy and I look forward to getting a few beers with him in Prague.

Derek is the guy who should be the universal ambassador for Canada. A guy who knows more about Canada and it´s celebrities is probably impossible to find.

I met Derek at the hospitalityclub Berlin beach camp 07. He is a funny and friendly guy. We had great time there with other HC members... especially the rainy "Carnaval of Culture" and good discussions about everything in front of tasty indian food! :-) ... I hope to meet you again to speak more... in French la prochaine fois!!!!!

Be warned. If you take Derek up to a restaurant he could become kleptomaniac and put everything he could find in his Mary Poppins backpack... except the cabbage ! Humor off, he is a nice and natural guy.

 

He came to stay in Vienna. He was definitely interesting to talk to and cooked a nice breakfast with Roy for me and the gang. See you in Prague sometime :)

He knows things a proper Canadian should! All in all a really fun guy as well as the only other Canadian in Prague (that I know).

 

Derek is cool :) He's french is so impressive! :) just kidding my english is crap :) Seriously Derek is easy-going and fun. We had some nice chats at this prague bowling evening where we met. Fors sure we'll meet again. Take care Derek. Too bad you couldn't join us to Brno and Bratislava. Next time, I want you in, ok? See you soon buddy.

 

I met Derek in Praha through Roy, before he signed up on couchsurfing. I'm very glad to find him signed up, enjoy hosting and surfing Derek!
