Couch Information
Couch Available: Definitely! Preferred Gender: Any
Wheelchair Accessible: Yes
Max Surfers Per Night: 99
Shared Sleeping Surface: Depends Shared Room: DependsI'm living in the master bedroom which is pretty big. There's an empty bedroom at the meantime while we're trying to find someone to rent it. So while it is empty, you can stay there if you'd like. If you're planning to stay for a long period, or just decide to rent it, be my guest :) *I have no idea why the system says I'm in KL, but I'm actually really in Kuching, so....*
Kuching-
I've just confirmed to be working in Kuching for the next 2 years. Currently am in the process of moving into a new, comfy house. I'm working an insane job, so I leave for work around 5am, only to come back around 7pm, so weekends are definitely the best time to host. But you're welcomed to ask anytime, we'll work something out.
I'm sorry but no smoking in the house (you can do it outside if you like). You'll either stay with me or in one of the empty rooms. Air-conditioned. Soft, cushy bed. I've got a car at my disposal, but depending on your luck, I might or might not be able to drive you around and introduce you to some of the sights in Kuching. Since it's a new house, please do not be surprised to find it slightly underfurnished. As I'm busy working, I haven't had time to EVEN go out to shop for furnitures! :) But then again, sometimes people seek solace in simplicity.
It's not necessarily far from the city centre, but not in the city centre as well. There's a bus stop right in front of my house.
I do love to cook. And eat, I may add. Depending on my working schedule, I might be able to whip a simple dinner up. But it'll definitely be a plus if you can prepare some dishes of your specialties when you're here too. To me- that's what couchsurfing is all about, introducing bits and pieces of you on your side of the world to me in this side of the world.
a week might be too long, but it all depends. As long as you don't piss me off too much, you can stay as long as you like >:p Friends (57)

Victor, this 73 year old war-veteran who lives alone here in Kursk. Since I myself have too much time to spare, I visit him every other week, we have tea, discuss about politics, etc...View all 37 photos
Personal DescriptionI am a 23 year old medical student. Born in Malaysia and then survived 6 years living in Russia. Basically was raised in an Asian setting but grew up with a mentality of someone from the West, so I try to get the best qualities from both worlds- being polite, respecting one another, appreciative of everything that you have, and at the same time willing to think outside of the box, be open-minded and am willing to strive hard.
Enjoy new and wacky experiences. Will not hesitate or pass up an opportunity to have fun!How I Participate in CSHost, Surf, Help, and just spread the love through my cookings, lol!CouchSurfing ExperienceFor the past years I've been doing these whirlwind backpacking tours around the most of eastern and western europe. When previously all I did was arrive, snap some picture, eat, sleep, leave, now it's a different ballgame. I hang out with Couchsurfers, make new friends, learn the culture and learn to see a different country and different town the best way- that is through the eyes of the locals. And honestly that's going to be better than any tour guides or any guide books that you can acquire.
In Kuching, Sarawak, during the past 3 summers I've brought some visiting Couchsurfers out around Kuching, visiting somes sites, tasting the local delicacies, etc.
Also, people should start calling me the Couchsurfing Chef now, cos' every chance I get, I will jump right into the kitchen and cook up a meal for my hosts/surfers. Just spreading love the way I know how- through your tastebuds, baby!InterestsCooking, Travelling, Music, Movies, Culture, People, just about sums it up. Philosophy"A lot of things in life people don't do because of the 'what-ifs', when the actual fact is that the 'what-ifs' and the 'whats' and the 'might-bes' are what makes life so exciting...' - Ewan McGregor, the Long Way AroundMusic, Movies, BooksAnything and everything goes for me, I'm serious!Types of People I enjoyI love people from all cultures, ages, background. During my 6 years living in Russia, the university I attended was a multicultural one, with students from nearly every corner of the globe. I too seize the oportunity to make as much friend as I can. Just having these conversations with them, I feel like I'm being taken back to their country, like my neighbour's tales of how his mother and aunt narrowly escaped death from the Tsunami in Sri Lanka, of how my friend in Nigeria has a neighbour who is a shaman etc.
I enjoy learning and just basking in the knowledge that there's so much to discover in this world. Everytime I go to a new place or a new city, I literally get goosebumps from seeing the people, the sights, the sounds. Teach, Learn, ShareSince I spent nearly 20 years of my life in Kuching, Malaysia, I would be able to dispatch any information anyone would like to acquire. Anybody's who dropping by Kuching, I'm pretty sure that I can definitely take you out around town, to some of the must-sees and sights of Kuching, don't hesitate to give me a buzz.
One Amazing Thing I've Seen or DoneGetting arrested this past February at the Kosovo-Serbian border, handcuffed to the back of a police truck for a whole hour. Then detained somemore... before being released. Throughout the whole experience, the only moment I got TRULY afraid, was when the cops put on latex gloves, cos for a second there I thought- CAVITY SEARCH! But luckily, he spared us that torture, lol!
Eating creepy crawlies in Cambodia (even as bold as I was, I refused to touch the Tarantulas, though, my Lord the thought of that fried tarantula still haunts me in my dream...)
Working and helping out at this local orphanage here in Kursk (check my blog entry to see some of our activities with the children). Also, under a Big Brother/Big Sister-esque programme, I took mentorship of this 13 year old boy from the local orphanage, who now is practically just like my younger brother. This experience has been nothing short of amazing/mind-blowing. To find out more information about the mentorship programme head to http://www.invisible-children.org/english/Opinion on the CouchSurfing.org ProjectI hope to gain friends through this project. From Alexandra Oberste-Dommes Frankfurt am Main, Germany Sep 14, 2009 Positive I am so thankful to Kelvin and his family. I was meant to be that I meet them, I am sure. They saw me wandering around in Kuching and Kelvin remembered me straight away and his mum came over to ask me, if I was on couchsurfing. I spent a wonderful time with him and his mum, dad and Brother. They took me out to a market near the indondesian border where no tourist was in sight. Kelvins brother cooked a wonderful dinner for me and I spent hours feeling very comfortable and welcome. Kelvin is such a nice person. He is c.alm and very peaceful and funny. I like his views of the world. His mum is about the sweetest person I have met so far, the same for his dad and his Brother. And his doggie is soooo cute! You should really meet them in person, they definately will be in my mind whenever telling people about my Sarawak trip. Thanks a lot Kelvin!!!

From SVOTEC Lisbon, Portugal Jun 28, 2009 Positive I met Kelvin in my hometown Kursk on a... CS meeting. This thing I wouldn't expect in such place. But through Kelvin I found that there is many couchsurfers and other crazy foreign people who are coming to the ass of Russia to spend there 6 or more years for studying medicine.
Well, Kelvin is one of them. I had to do something with that fact, that he and his friends don't know anything about the area where they live. They never left the city in whole 6 years!
I showed them one monastery around Kursk and slums of the city. And we spent a lot of time together cooking and eating international food.
Hope to see you once again somewhere in this small World.
From Dmitry Sivenkov Moscow, Russia May 13, 2009 Positive I hosted Kelvin on his last weeks in medical school and I really want him to have the best memories about Russia and Moscow in particular. On the first day we met and went to TIKIBAR for CS weekly meeting, and after to my place where we talked till 1AM for there's a lot of topics to discuss for us. The next day he left with Mauri to explore the "Park Pobedy" and probably VDNH. Polite, kind and at the same time really active CS participant with lots of things to share. Keep it up, Kelvin, I'll do mu best to see you in Malaysia.

From Horia Diaconescu Bucharest, Romania Feb 8, 2009 Positive Kelvin and his Malaysian fellow, Victor, surfed my Bucharest flat right at the time of Chinese New Year, which we spent tasting Asian dishes he prepared, looking at maps, learning Malay language and Romanian history.
Kelvin is a cheerful, positive and ready to develop his travelling skills (I'm glad he got into hitchhiking, while in Romania). He has lots of funny stories and bursts into laughter quite often. That it's the best contagious thing to get from a doctor. Having him as a guest was very pleasant, as he is well travelled and communicates easily. I bet he's an equally cool host too.
From Finn Kölzer Cologne, Germany Feb 2, 2009 Positive Kelvin and Victor are awesome. Before even really taking there coats of and fully arriving, they rushed to the stove and cooked us delicious rice within less than 15 minutes. That was extremely impressive! (After cooking they even did the dishes)
Both are super funny, entertaining and make good doctors, hopefully. If I will ever be sick (and a kid again), I will go to Neuschwanstein to see Calvin. Come back whenever you want!
From SHEEPDONTSWIM Brooklyn, United States Jan 27, 2009 Positive If I didn't already know better, I might have thought Kelvin was quiet when he first got here. He and Victor arrived and immediately set about making us dinner, which was awesome. They are both great guests and wickedly funny. I was sad to see them leave so soon, but luckily they've been chronicling their adventures online so they're still keeping me entertained.
