About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To connect with those with a travel for passion and know that kindness can prevail...

ABOUT ME

Well, I'm a freelance journalist but I have just started a PhD connected to media, veganism and animal ethics. Please do read my couch description and profile before getting in touch (especially with regards to my animals that live with me, and me being vegan), and let me know something about yourself in your enquiry, if you'd like to stay. I'm happy to extend my northern hospitality to agreeable people :-)

PHILOSOPHY

I aim to live a life that is not filled with regret for the things I didn't try, even if they failed. I also look to increase the happiness of other living beings (humans and nonhuman animals alike), and I believe in living in the moment.

My moral viewpoint is simple - do what you like, as long it doesn't hurt others. This to me includes animals and all living beings, hence why I am vegan. I have no time for attitudes that connect morality with religious judgement, such as those who are homophobic because they think in terms of 'sin'.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I used to have about 100 penpals in my late teens/early twenties (yes, we actually wrote letters, no email then!). So, when I set up a 2 month trip around Europe, many of them were kind enough to let me stay. I suppose that was my first experience of 'CouchSurfing'.

I also did a house swap in 1994 with an elderly couple from the Netherlands.

Interests

I'm interested in most of life's wonderful pleasures - the arts, poetry, wonderful food (especially spicy!), good wine and champagne, and I also love animals and nature. I'm a keen vegan activist and I live a vegan lifestyle and don't eat any animal produce.

Music, Movies, and Books

My long-standing favourite film is Bladerunner, but I love so many! And books - Good Omens by Neil Gamen and Terry Pratchet is a fave. I also love His Dark Materials trilogy by Philip Pullman.

Music-wise - I like Indie, alternative electro-synth and dance! Alt-J and Purity Ring are the bands I am listening to most at the moment :)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Trekked through the High Atlas mountains of Morocco with a family of nomadic Berbers as they did their bi-annual migration.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you vegan cooking, or even talk to you about how to start out being a writer (if you enjoy writing!). I'd like to learn to speak Spanish.

Countries I’ve Visited
