Personal DescriptionI have just moved from San Diego, CA to New York City, to start a Masters program in International Development at NYU! Over the last two years, I've lived in Brasil, and Nairobi, Kenya for extended periods of time. As for languages, I speak decent Portguês, and my Espanol is just OK. I am new to the city and am excited to explore and meet new people! I also love meeting interesting people from different cultures!!How I Participate in CSI offer my couch, my floor, my city, my beer, my time, and my excellent cooking. This is a limited time offer, so act now! Only $19.95! (Just kidding) Maybe I will even have a party when you are CouchSurfing!CouchSurfing ExperienceI've slept on many a couch, and I think it is the best way to travel ; it's the only way to experience the local culture!! I've now CouchSurfed over 10 hosts, and I love it! I had many CouchSurfers stay with me in California, and I have had a good time showing them around San Diego and experiencing the things that they have to offer! As for "Couch Surfing", I just don't think that a couch would float very well, but whatever works...InterestsHelping people who everyone else ignores, living to the fullest, travel, dancing and bar related things. Global development. A lot of DANCING and a little beer. Sometimes the other way around. A goal of mine is to have danced and drank on every continent by 2010, and to have improved the lives of innumerable people in the worlds poorest places and worst situations.PhilosophyCarpe Diem and the Golden Rule. Change the world one step at a time. To try and to fail is better then to have never tried at all. Try as hard as possible not to judge people, but to accept and understand 'Why'!Music, Movies, BooksAnything unique! I've been watching a lot of international films lately. I love 80s music and movies! I like books about social issues.Types of People I enjoyAnyone with a positive attitude and something to say! I enjoy hosting CouchSurfers who are interested in experiencing the culture, sights, and people of the city, and I hope to learn something from them in return! I have had a few CouchSurfers who came to San Diego just to shop, sleep, and say they'd been here, and that makes me sad!!!Teach, Learn, ShareI can tell you many crazy stories (all true). I lived in Africa for 16 weeks. I can talk about that. I've lived in Brasil for 4 months. I've worked with homeless teens, I think thats pretty interesting. I also do HIV/AIDS volunteer work with children. Plenty of stories there! I love people that can tell a good story! Unfortunately I cannot teach you how to knit a sweater, I never learned that skill. One Amazing Thing I've Seen or DoneThe slums of Nairobi, Kenya, specifically Kibera. Nothing changes you like seeing the most basic human needs go unmet. Living in a Kenyan slum. Dancing in foreign countries. The street parties of Lapa in Rio de Janiero. Brasil in general. I like push-starting stalled vehicles in foreign lands: I have push started a public bus in Kibera Slum, Nairobi, Kenya, and push-started a taxi in the middle of a highway that runs next to Tienanmen Square in Beijing, China! I have also been held at gunpoint by drunk police at 4am in Nairobi, Kenya, as well as by a sober policeman in broad daylight in San Diego! Don't worry, I'm not a criminal, it's just profiling!Opinion on the CouchSurfing.org ProjectThis is awesome! My couch still doesn't float, though...
I have used CouchSurfing for over 2 years now, and it has helped me meet some of the world's most amazing people and see some of the worlds most amazing places! From Embly H Chicago, United States Jul 4, 2008 Positive The brother I never had (well, actually i have 2, but not as kickass as my darling Andrew). Hes a lively spirit, always up for a party, then up at the crack of dawn (just to crash in your bed when your not looking haha) We spent 3 nights in Iguazu falls too hungover to actually see the falls till the last day, and even took on a pair of canadians together ;). He´s a true sweetheart. Youd be wise to get to know this truely beautiful, wacky individual. A real doll. Hope to see you again sometime in these lower lattitudes my dear. Happy travels, you silly boy, you! Besos

From Erica Watanabe Sydney, Australia Jun 9, 2008 Positive Impossible not to like this guy. He is very easygoing and, though he loves to festejar duro (party hard), he can be a great friend for long lazy times too!
He is a great host and is always making sure his guests are having a good time.
He is my buddy for conversations about life and relationships. He is smart and one of the nicest guys I've ever met. And he's very funny too, specially when he pulls faces while speaking Portuguese.

From Luisa Monteiro de Oliveira Sao Paulo, Brazil May 13, 2008 Positive Andrew is a very nice guy! At the begging is hard to follow him, because he speaks and think sooo fast, but later, if you have the chance of know him better, you will see this adorable funny guy, with hom you can have great conversations with lots of beer in a cheap but nice boteco! Good lucky at Rio!
From Sigrun Schmähling Berlin, Germany May 13, 2008 Positive This guy is full of great talents: He can talk in a very loud remarkable voice for hours and hours and hours without repeating himself and getting boring. He can party hard and long several days in a row and still motivate himself to get up for a horrible breakfast at 10:00 am. He makes me write the longest reference I ever gave.
Above all his heartiness makes you feel like you met an old friend after an unmeasurable short time.
He also infected me with the worst cold I can remember. But I can't help myself. I still really like this fellow.
Beware!!He appears when you expect him least!! :-)

But no wonder Andrew has it easy with people, he's a great guy, either to party with (of course!), but also in general. From Jonny Fillmore Portland, United States Nov 21, 2007 Positive Being hosted by Andrew was a fantastic time, despite him and one of his friends managing to get me drunk and dancing like a goon at a bar. Of course, up until the last beer I didn't exactly resist-- but by then it was too late anyway :). From JASMINEBERRY Austin, United States Jul 17, 2007 Positive i met andrew for the first time when a couchsurfer friend of ours was leaving my place and going to his. unfortunately, when we met up i didn't get the chance to speak to him very much because some random old senior citizen man barged in on our group meeting and didn't give us all the chance to chat. he seemed really cool though and i would like to get another chance to hang out with him again when strangers aren't inviting themselves into our converstation(s).
From Louise K San Francisco, United States Jun 14, 2007 Positive If I only had one word to describe Andrew and Ryan it would have to be "fun", but since I can say more, they are also gracious, down to earth, respectful, funny, and know how to have a good time. They were great hosts and I had a ball at their place! Especially loved their couch, which was very, very comfortable.
