Marcus Eder

 

Thanks to Marcus, to take his time to meet us. We had a really nice dinner at a nice queer restaurant. After the restaurant we had some drinks at a bar. It was short but an enjoyable night, talking, laughing... it was fun to listen his italian joke ;)hope to meet u again Marcus...

We met at European CS Collective in Eisenstadt at which he was a founder and moderator. Afterwards I interviewed him and many others that had been involved this great and well organized meeting. Marcus contributed in many ways to help save CS after the crash in 2006. We have kept in touch over the years and I have admired his great CS spirit.

Having Marcus standing in the doorstep in his motorbike-outfit and a big grin on his face makes you smile the moment you open the door. With Mike and his friends we had a really good time in Regensburg, even though we had to suffer from the "Regensburger Sperrstunde" :-)
He is welcome to come back any time!

A nice bloke with a wide knowledge of the sound of music :) with an open personality. in no-time we discussed things that really matter. Marcus certainly was a nice guest.

Marcus has been the first couchsurfer I hosted and if they all are like him, I am not worried for the future. He is a very nice guy, talkative with a lot humour and interested in many different things. I think couchsurfing has become part of his lifestyle and he really is a perfect guest. It is very uncomplicated to get a long with him and I will always host him in the future if he should ever find his way to Duesseldorf again. Thank you very much, Marcus!

 

It was nice to have Marcus around. It's fun to talk with him about everything from the usual random couchsurfing stories to nerdy physics stuff. He loves to cook (and is excellent at it too however he doesn't like the same amount of salt in his food as i do).
Oh and he'll wash your dishes if you let him!

 

Marcus could not host my friend Carlos and I in Vienna but he did his best to meet us. Although some of his jokes are really bad (sorry, Marcus) he is fun! It was a pleasure to finally meet you, Marcus, and hope to see you on the road again!

Marcus stayed with us for two nights and we had a wonderful time, be nice to catch up with him someday in Austria.

Marcus was my tent neighbour and during the following days at the Paella we shared loads of laughs, hugs and good moments. His awesome creation with the neon sticks will definitely stay remembered!!! Take care ; ).

 

Marcus is a smart and active fountain of ideas and thoughts, using his sheer unlimited amount of energy to smile, think and brainstormly express - and as it turned out a naturally skilled musician on the Kazoo :) Enjoyed both times his company and dedication for the CS idea and hope to repeat it soon!

We whistled together, that was good fun, so every time I saw Marcus at the Vienna Calling meeting, he would start whistling this song again and it would be stuck in my head again.. it's in my head again now too!
It was nice meeting Marcus, he's a gentle person, smiles a lot but is a bit quiet (well, compared to me maybe). He seemed to be very busy with organizing stuff at Vienna Calling, but stayed very calm, impressive :)

Marcus, although just my second CS experience, I can assure he is a really exponent of the CS spirit. He is so good host, well prepared even to the smallest detail (dozen of towels in case u need one:). He is willing to share and learn from all people. I hope to see him again and he will be always welcome in Ecuador or in The Netherlands. Even he cook for me an Austrian dish my first day. How can I ask for a better welcome...

 

Well, Marcus and I finally met after more than 3 years of know each other on the site and I really enjoyed that meeting. Marcus embraces couchsurfing and has always worked with getting things right on CS. He is a positive and loving person and a person should not miss the chance to meet this unique individual!

I can honestly say that Marcus is one of those persons that you can sense even from far, whenever he honors a CS event with her presence, her radiance takes over. He's a fun and warm ambassador with the most contagious laugh, a funny accent, and a great personality. He's also most diligent at providing any required information to travelers and locals. It's always a thrill to be around this passionate and knowledgeable guy! Servus!

I hosted Marcus two nights here in Nuremberg. He is an excellent surfer. We had a very goog meal and a saw a good movie in the 3D cinema. Marcus is a opening and easy gonig guy with a lot of energy. I really hope to meet you in Vienna:-)

Marcus was a lot of fun to have around. A dedicated Couchsurfer who lives in a place with a lot of CSers around, he s an interesting, friendly and very chatty guy. Marcus, you re always welcome! If I get some time off I may even come down to Vienna for a bit

Marcus was our guest but he took care of everything: he planned a drink at a bar with another CSer, he cooked an awesome Gevöstete Knödel, inviting more CSers, and there was enough for three meals :)
Now I know where to go when I decide to go to Austria!

Marcus is a great ambassador to the city of Wein (Vienna). He provided my travelling companion and I with a warm place to sleep, hot shower and created a very delicious dinner out of a few very basic ingredients (points for presentation!)

Marcus has a true passion for his home city and makes every effort to maximize your visiting experience by providing a map (with circled landmarks), an old-school cell phone in case of emergencies and EVEN a personal tour guide through an outdoor market INCLUDING an encounter with the president of Austria!

Marcus is a couch surfing Guru. He truly believes in it and it's way of life and will share his stories of his involvements throughout it's history. He also introduced us to our first CS meeting/party!

Lastly Marcus is handy! He repaired my broken headphones and made every effort in helping me find an affordable mode of transportation so that I could reach my next destination of Paris

I hosted Marcus during the "Electronica". We had a great dinner at the first evening. Also we had discussions about where CS is going, the possibilities and the problems coming with it. Great Time!

I had a good impression of Marcus after I first met him, but after being hosted by him in Vienna, I can say that he is a great host, interested in sharing culture, especially food. Marcus is always welcome, wherever I may be.

Marcus is a great guy, very friendly and open. He let us stay for three nights, and we had a very good time. He is an excellent cook as well, he made us dumplings one night that were amazing. He is also good to talk to, a really intelligent guy who knows what he's talking about. I highly recommend staying with him if you can, and have him show you Wag the Dog haha.

He can work magic with a phone.

Marcus set us up like we were at a hotel.

He sat down with us and took time to tell us different sights to see around Wien. There was even a cell phone he lent us for around town to get a hold of him.

ALthough we came to vienna with no idea about what we may see it feels like we had a wonderful taste.

Marcus was very flexible with a schedule I was trying to juggle. He was interesting conversation and a knowledgeable host.

i would highly recommend Marcus with anyone! I was actually very busy with my work during this time but he made the time to meet me and feel welcome in Vienna. I cant think of another better ambassador for CS than this guy!

 

So my experience with Marcus is one for the history books! After finding out the people I knew in Vienna were away on holiday to Greece and my other requests turned down I was homeless and wandering around the city looking for free wireless internet in a last ditch effort to find someone on CS. Marcus speeds by me on his bicycle..slams on the brakes, turns and says "Hey, is that couch surfing?"..next thing you know I'm staying an extra day in Vienna because we had such a good time! I very much appreciate the generous hospitality, the great food, and the talks..and of course "Hercules Goes To New York!" Marcus, you're always welcome in Florida.

Happily Marcus was here to explain me about life, or I would have stayed an idiot for all my life. So THANK YOU MARCUS! And now you know there are vulcanos in France...

Marcus is an interesting person. We had a good time cycling through Augsburg, climbing the Perlach tower, eating, laughing... Then we met up with a CS friend of mine and celebrated a couple of birthdays. ;) All in all it was a great experience!

 

What a coincidence! He passed Augsburg on my Birthday, so he also take part at my Party. The really awesome thing on that story is, that Marcus birthday was on the next day. So i could give the birthday stick directly to him - great thing!

Marcus, Meltem and I had great fun arranging a photo studio, draping it with alu foil, creating atmo with candles, setting up spotlight, and finally shooting the perfect picture of: a Kir Royal. no, THE Kir Superroyal, indeed.
Marcus is the right person to have endless fun with, he's so open and sincere. What a pleasure to celebrate your birthday together!

Many thanks to Marcus for letting us surf his couch in Vienna! He is an exceptionally hospitable host and a fine chef as well. It's too bad we didn't stay longer because he really made our first visit to Vienna an amazing experience. I met Marcus at the Sternplatz, a central place in the metropolis of Bayreuth (with Stefan Weiß, his cs-host), we went to the wonderful traditional Oscar's, talked about cannibals, next day we had lunch in the university cafeteria, talked about human loneliness and sweet smiles - you see, he's interested in a variety of things ;)

Marcus was an interested, funny and friendly guest. He came late, but we managed to have a short look at bayreuth at night and met up with another couch surfer for beer and brezen and a funny talk. I also showed him around at my lab in university. See you in Vienna!

We couch surfed Marcus's place on July 23rd for 3 nights. All I can say is that our experience wouldn't have been what it was if we didn't meet Marcus. He is the most hospitable, most welcoming person I have met! Not only that, but he is an amazing cook! In preparations for his upcoming vacation, he still took the time to show us around Vienna and take us to the film festival, along with his wonderful friend Yoachim(sp?). As my first couch surfing exprience, I can only look forward to having more experiences like I did with Marcus, although I know it will be quite hard to add up to this first experience. Thank you for everythign Marcus, I look forward to seeing you sometime again, let it be at the Couch Surfing Paella which I hope I can make, back in Vienna, or on your visit to California :-). A short, but very very intresting meeting with Marcus. We really liked You Marcus. We will absolutly meet again, hopefully then we can make you some vegan pancakes. And please remember the vegan chefs are just a phonecall away.

 

Marcus was one of the first couchsurfer I met in Vienna when I moved there. He's a very positive and kind person, always in a good mood, also in difficult situations he never loses his sense of humour. Great guy, full of real CS spirit. It's impressive how much he's involved in the idea of the CS project...

 

Meeting Marcus at the paella was a pleasure, and even though I can't say that we talked for hours, I quite enjoyed his very joyful character coupled with a deeper side when discussing couchsurfing "serious" topics: such balance must be what's behind his impressive dedication to the whole project!!!
I'll let you know when I stop by Vienna later on this summer for sure :-) !
UPDATE (August 2008):
I'm glad I got to meet Marcus again, this time in his own country! Quite logically I got to know him better, and he's all the good things I could think of him: a cheerful guy, intelligent, with fun and interesting conversations, and of course a great knowledge of Vienna :-) !
Sorry for staying that shortly in the city ;-), but we still had time to be very impressed by it: we should hence come back one of these days to enjoy it even more! So till next time...

We`ve known each other since July 2008. We drove together to the Paella Party 2008. We had so much fun during the trip. Markus hosted me and my friend Adam one night and then we went to Switzerland exacly to Gossau.First time I saw Vienna by night from a local mountain-it was amazing(I had WOW-effect). Markus is very kind and nice person we had great time in Vienna. We had something in common -(Profession):).I hope we will have an occasion to meet again. Thank you Markus for your hospitality.

 

What to say after all the time... Took him just short of a year to leave me a reference, but hey, at least it was a nice one ;-) Plus, he's offering to make me some tasty Austrian desert I've never even heard of, which makes him my instant favorite. But it may take a bit more to get me to Vienna, so keep talking... ;-) Anyway, yeah, as you may have already guessed, he's very nice, interesting, always cheerful, and altogether quite lovely (sorry, been in the UK for a few days, the lingo is starting to rub off already). If he ever comes to Switzerland, I promise to bake him some... hmm... some... well, I have no idea what, so just shut up and come over. :-) Hope to see ya soon!

 

i like freaks, and marcus is only a little freaky, so i automatically liked marcus.... we know each other from vince's paella, and i plan to visit him in vienna.

 

A truly felix Austrian!

Marcus is definitely a kind of his own. Granted: the first thing you'll probably notice when you meet him is the hair – or rather the lack of it. But what you should rather look at are his eyes. Their vivid and sparkling (and sometimes also dreaming) look reveal Marcus' energy and devotion with which he's constantly trying to contribute to the CouchSurfing Project which he's obviously so keen on. Quite a while before we met at the EU CSC in Eisenstadt we had had our little fights in some of the CS groups – some fought together others against each other. Then the contacts (Skype mostly – Marcus doesn't care too much about typing and reading ;-D) became more often and longer with the upcoming EU CSC and then The Crash. And thru these I had the pleasure to get to know his at times really child-like enthusiasm for "his projects" as well as his – no less child-like ;-) – not even tried to conceal disappointment about things that went not so good or as planned. And then again his open joy when eventually these things do work out after all. And then came Eisenstadt where the image I got of him was completed by a) his – again – very enthusiastic, rather agitating (however at times not really coherent…) arguing for his ideas which are sometimes thought thru for a longer time and sometimes just seem to burst out of him and b) his funny way as "just" a good beer (or wine or…) buddy at nights;-) I realize that some of the things I've mentioned above with a mild irony may at times be annoying for others – just like the fact that he apparently sees himself not so much as the man for the details and simple jobs to do but rather for having the bigger picture or aiming at the larger goal. But I can't help but finding that all rather amusing and thus seeing in Marcus a really funny guy – besides a being a true believer in the idea of hospitality exchange – whom I hope to meet soon again!!!

 

First time I met Marcus was in Stockholm for the First Nordic Ambs meeting and then we met 3 weeks later for the Couchsurfing Paella meeting in Switzerland.
He is a really nice guy with a good sense of humour. He is caring and fun and we have shared lots of interesting conversations already. Hope to see you again soon !

 

I met Marcus at the CS Paella in CH. Very easygoing and easy to talk to guy. I am looking forward to meet him again soon!! I also think that he is a fan of my Mojito :-))

Marcus makes very good company both for parties and more serious things. We met in Stockholm during the nordic meeting and had fun conversations and good time. I'm very sorry that Animal tried to bite his head off half of the time but I guess it's simply because Marcus is so sweet he couldn't resist. :)

Without knowing who I am, Marcus agreed to host me! Very kind person. Much to talk about. Marcus is also a very precise and good cook. Besides he is an experienced host and guest and gave some important tips, which I give now further. Wünsche Dir viel Glück!

 

Marcus and his friend were two really good and easy-going guests. Luckily I had the day off to show them Uppsala and it was great to see they were interested in what I showed them. I couldn't have better first guests in my new room. Hope to see you again!

Marcus is an open minded, friendly and funny guy. We had a good conversation about our disciplines of studies and work and cooking/baking. I'm looking forward to cook some stuff with Marcus and I think he is as creative as I am in "designing" food. If you get the change to meet this guy, take it. Well, Aslinn's fame rose and dropped today like real estate prices last year. My respect for resiting on calimocho, my pity to hear you curiosity on trying THIS!
Still you can highly trust Aslinn on her taste, since she also will find the words for letting you know, if the wine is good. By experience, the word 'poseur' doesn't break the ice in contrast to all the other intelligent, funny or serious topics to discuss with her. It was and will be a pleasure.
Just learn all this in first hand by meeting her.
PS: If you come from Manchester: learn to speak her name properly first.
PPS: Don't trust the polish guy who is swirling around her, with food, just laugh with both of them.

We met in Stochkolm a couple of years ago, and that a very nice time in a pub and also walking around the central parts of Stockholm. He is very welcome here again!

 

We shared some evenings cooking and eating together with a bottle of Wine! Last time I cooked! So next time is your turn! jajaj Funny guy. And he is always laughing!

 

Marcus was to perfect host for us: we spent the time cooking and eating together, we relaxed on Leopoldsberg with him and he accompanied us to a comedy show. He was very kind and we had lots of fun with him. And he has never been to Graz - so I'm sure we'll see him again soon and I'll be more than glad to host him!

Although he is not yet a professional in whistling "Hollareduliöh", how I could experience myself, I am really glad that I could stay at Marcus' place. I can highly recommend his cooking skills - especially the "Kaiserschmarrn" - and he is a really good travel guide!!! The perfect host for Vienna!!

Marcus is very energetic and friendly. He gave an afternoon of his time to give us all a guided tour through Vienna. I found his excitement very infectious. I hope I see you again, Marcus.

Dressed as Frankensteins creation himself, Marcus spent quite a while in front of the stove, carefully mixing the secret ingredients which later on would become the first homemade punch i ever tasted. Halloween was complete! Marcus is an interesting person with a lot of experience, humour and intelligence, which i hopefully get to meet again.

marcus is a weird guy with a heart of gold :)
his strange and slightly morbid humour might sometimes freak me out but still he's the man i would marry anytime (pumuckl watchers know why).

 

Marcus is a very friendly guy to surf with. He took me to a CS Vienna Meeting and introduced me to other local CS Vienna Hosts and had a wonderful time. He has a wonderful kitchen and will he let you cook him anything you want. :) And I can say I tried for the very first time Follen schnitzel. You mightnot want to know what that is but it was good.

I am always pleased to meet Marcus at parties or meetings. He is a great guy and a very polite and easy-going guest (He ate the food I cooked and liked it :)) I am honoured that he considers me as a competitor at a Kaiserschmarrn-contest - though he said his Kaiserschmarrn is noncompetitive ;)

I hosted Marcus in Sweden last year and now that we were passing by Vienna on our Roadtrip through Europe we stopped by at his place.

Marcus is a very kind person.
(Except from when he destroyed my computer and later on my new camera) ;)

He gladly showed us around in Vienna.
Too bad the view over the town was covered by fog when we went up the hill.

I trust Marcus deeply and can recommend you to let him surf your couch or to surf his at any time ;)

Marcus surfed my couch during one night and we went to cinema and later by chance to a youtube-festival, where we got lots of stuff to drink and to eat - for free :o) and this happened thanks to Marcus' open-minded nature. he easily talks with everybody and due to his small talk with those youtube-guys we got some invitations for the event... :o)

The only negative part of meeting Marcus is that he didn t stay enough and that he had to find his way back to the couch in the darkness :) I m waiting you to come back and stay longer man :)

 

Markus made an AMAZING Kaiserschmarrn - the best I have ever had (never tried it before, I admit). A very knowledgable fellow and a good guy to spend the evening drinking wine and discussing far out subjects (such as couchsurfing or the GPS system)! He verified me, woopie!

 

Marcus is not only Mister CouchSurfing Austria, not only Mister CouchSurfing Europe, he's also THE embassador when it comes to Austrian food. His "Kaiserschmarrn" was excellent! Marcus, thank you for the dinner and for the job you're doing for the CS community. The world needs more people like you.

 

I have met Marcus on frequent occasions during my time in Vienna CS community. He wears his heart on his sleeve, and that is admirable quality. Sometimes differences of opinion occur, but that makes life interesting, everything does not always go our way.

 

Marcus is my personal hero. Not really because he is a very nice guy and a great couchsurfer that will cook you awesome Austrian food but because he fixed my dishwasher. So in case u have any broken electrical stuff host him and make him fix it ;) otherwise throw him out the door! Be careful though that he doesn`t kill himself (by not unplugging the device) what he did about three times in my place. I hope everyone gets the serious and the more ironic parts of this reference :) Keep on Couchsurfing!

shining example and incorporation of the very ideas of CS - i'd defentitely love to stay with him once - and even more host him and make him have also an unforgettable CS experience in Berlin (or wherever I'll be putting up my tents in the future...)

 

I think that Marcus is a very strange man, but very very kind. I met Marcus last may 2007 in Wingcastles's home when Wing organized a Little Grill Fest in his granmother's home in countryside.

Marcus is a hard core Surfer, always looking to make connections, put people in touch with each other, and learn something about the world along the way. It was a delight to host him, even if the fireworks didn't always cooperate.

What more can I add to all these previous extremely positive references? The only thing I can say: it's true!

 

Marcus hosted me in Vienna during my recent trip in Europe. I contacted him very last minute while I was very disorganized and trying to get the next few days of my trip in order. So for taking me in on such short notice and being a very gracious and generous host, I thank him deeply.
When I first hung out with him, he took me on a tour of local coffee shops just to look at all the amazing desserts, how awesome is that?? I'm a chocolate lover and if anyone else out there is, ask him to show you the best place to eat dessert in Vienna! He also showed me a great time by recommending an amazing dinner in downtown Vienna, he picked out a movie that just by luck, really hit me with a strong message that helped to clear my head, and then when we got to his apartment, he offered to show me photo slideshows of his travels, and he has had some amazing adventures, the photos blew me away and inspire me too!
His CS spirit and dedication is clear from the outset, and I can only hope to meet more CSers just like him wherever I go! Will be one of the first people I contact whenever I return to Vienna! I hope that I can help grow the CS community wherever I am just like he has. And he has also helped to keep CS alive literally and technically, so a huge thanks for that since over the past year CS has changed my life and showed me the most amazing people I'v ever met!

Marcus wrote me that he was coming in Padova. I would have gladly hosted him, but I was going at a fair in Florence as volunteer and so I invited him to come to Florence :). It was great because we could participate to a very nice Last-minute CS Meeting organized by Kritaly, his host! I was kinda busy with the fair, and Marcus came to visit me and even helped me :) while he showed me his nice GPS system :). I am glad to have met Marcus, a great CS spirit and person! Ok, I especially remember his evil laugh ;) but not only that :D, and hope to catch up with him soon!

 

I met Marcus when we surfed the same couch in Leipzig. He is a really interesting guy, I had a good time talking to him. I can only aspire to surf as much as this man!

 

He is a cool guy, he took us to a really nice place on a hill near Viena, from which we could see all the city. It was really cool. We also ate there at a restaurant, I ate Wiena Schnitzel :)

 

So marcus wanted me to reference his motorbike (what I like to call bicycle, has two wheels so its a bicycle) skills. So here it finally is. Marcus wanted a last minute person to hop on his bike to go to Switzerland so I took him up on the offer. Was great fun, cold as hell though. I´m glad I got as far as I did, as I have never ridden a motorbike before and was a good experience, and he did well pushing through the pain his knees were putting him through to make it all the way to Salzburg.

I think I will not forget meeting Marcus, more or less by chance in a swimming pool just hours before my first CouchSurfers arrived. So I porobably had the best tutor on CouchSurfing in the world. We spent a great evening with them and some more evenings later on :)

He fascinates with his vibrant and cheerful personality; Oh i forgot, he has got some kind of biting humour, still he definitely is "a good guy" :) Don't want to miss him!

Unfortunately, I haven't had the chance to enjoy Marcus cooking specialities, but I hope this will change! Having said that, he even ate my ready made potatoe noodles+compote almost without complaining (what he should have done, it was awful) :)
UPDATE: now is is even more stunning that he ate my 'food': Marcus prepared some dumplings made of rolls cheese and spinach! brilliant - though the butter sauce i did was eatable as well! Happy Cheeseburger ;)

 

A fellow CS addict and very passionate about the community, it was a pleasure to meet Marcus and surf improptu with him..He is a wonderful host, cooks a wicked breakfast and was overall just great to be around..We worked on CS till 3 in the morning and if that wasnt enough we wound up having anotherround over brunch with Adi..and Birgit and Felix :).Highly recommended if you get to Vienna...Marcus...youre welcome to my couch wherever it might be.!!!!

Marcus is a perfect example of someone crazy for CouchSurfing- a fantastic guest, full of enthusiasm and ready for fun. It was great to talk to him one on one and also at the local mini-meeting we had while he was here. He's friendly and fun to hang out with and knows all things CS. Meet him! Host him! Now! :-)

Marcus is a great guy and a good friend that we always want at our side. You just need to meet him to understand what we are writing about him. We know each others since 2004 and since them we meet frequently with our guest or without them. He is always planning and organizing something to make Couchsurfing grow. The best is that he loves black beans for breakfast or with nachos!!!

After a whole year of making plans we finally met and did a short motorcycle trip together. I'm sure it's not the last one 'cause Marcus is kind of a guy that gives you a lot of positive energy. He's open, polite and hospitable, he has a bit special job, he realized many crazy trips in the world ... well, he's special! The only thing I can't get is why he's saying me that I'm crazy!? :)

Marcus stayed at my place for one night and it was plesant to host him. We had good and interesting chats and he helped me fix my motorhome the next day.

 

Marcus is an interesting and nice person who knows how to cook good food and is fun at a party :-) I wish I could have hosted him while he was here.

Marcus took very seriously the wonderful Collective in Eisenstadt, pushing his effort to the maximum. I'm truly respectful to his work and a huge part of the Collective's success is due to him.
Among all these things I remember the funny night he spent on the stairs talking for hours with a shampooed and soapy HungrySteve. :)
Update: Again we met at my place, hosting him, and then at the CS paella party 2007 in Gossau. He's a relaxed and truly dedicated CS pal, with many stories to tell about a plenty of arguments. Btw I love his electronic patent! :)

first host. hey i had the honor to be the first CouchSurfing Host of Marcus!! He and a few other Ambassadors stayed at my place after we carried our sign through the whole town :-) he was a very nice guest didn´t bite and was clean :-) aaaahahahahahaha and we had a great weekend on the 1st CouchSurfing Wellness Weekend ever! similar with the famous goleador hans krankl he is an ice-cold striker! :-) we had a real nice time.. hope to meet him again soon... Markus is a great guy, always up for fun. And also the makeshift halo (originally my phosporescent juggling ring :-)) very well suited him (as if grown there :-)). I've seen it featured on much more pictures of the Paella than even Vince and the Paellla together. Hey guy, sure to meet you again and once more enjoy your easy-going ways and your good mood.

 

Marcus is Austrian's brains of CouchSurfing. Very dedicated and always there to help stranded travellers or rebuilding the website after the crash. Sometimes he seems a bit absentminded, though - like when we drove 50 km from Eisenstadt to his place and he forgot his keys *lol* After meeting him in different European cities he also joined the CouchSurfing Paella 2007 at my place and helped me with the verification. Thanks honey!

 

I first met Marcus on my birthday (what a gift!) Later I made my way to his place. He showed me the best of Vienna, and made my stay so pleasant and sweet! I got the opportunity to sample some real Austrian food, RUM, and best of all hospitality. I would really like to be able to host Marcus back home.

 

Its really evident how proud Marcus is of his long-standing involvement in the CS community. His organisation for his guests matches his passion for the project! I only wished he had believed me about the recipe for my quiche...ha ha ha, something tells me the pea quiche we created as a consequence of our "discussion" in the kitchen is not going to take the world by storm! Look forward to partying with you over some paella at Vince's this weekend :-)

Marcus is really cool. Easy going, funny and interesting. I hope to meet him once again, really. He was really great in tuning my houshold :-) for example my buttonmakemachine or my pc. Yeahh! And the best: He likes our music!

Marcus and I have crossed paths a few times now and each time is a joy! His CS reputation speaks for itself, but as a person and a friend, he is wonderful. Just beware if he brings out the STROH RUM. my head aches at the thought...

Marcus has come to NYC twice now and we have been fortunate enough to meet up. Both time he made sume scrumptious eatables a-la-Marcus. We also got in a very heated debate about CS ethics, but that's what it's all about, isn't it. Till next time, Cheers

We had a nice chat at a CS-gathering and also had a hard time thinking of where we know each other from ...anyway, it seems to me that Marcus has the the right CS-attitude, very open-minded and very friendly.

 

The Motorcycle Diaries. I promise to make this short...however, everyday with Marcus is an adventure. I was lucky to spend nearly five days here in Vienna and there is no better person to spend time with! Marucs volunteered to drive me up to Bratislava on his motorcycle (yes ladies, I packed light!) after we got there and ate dinner, we found out that all the cheap places to stay were full...so Marcus let me come back to Vienna with him and stay another night. On the following day Marcus drove me to Sopron, Hungary to catch a train to Budapest. Once again we stopped in town to eat before we headed to the train station...just to find out the last train of the day had already left! So once again, Marcus let me come back to Vienna and stay another night...but I promise, some way some how I will leave tomorrow!! Marcus is a wonderful host with a big heart for travelers. More importantly, he understands how to be a host and really goes above and beyond to make you feel special! ***UPDATE*** I was lucky enough to stay with Marcus a second time! This time though, no motorcycle rides. Instead, I got to spend some time cooking dinners and meeting other CS members through Marcus. In fact, we both attended a CS meeting in Linz and Munich together too! Marcus understands what CS is all about and I love his enthusiasm for the project! Hugs! I miss you already!

 

Marcus is extraordinary. Responsible, friendly, mischievous, dark, and an utter sweetheart. He has an infectious smile, an enormous heart, and a sharp mind. I couldn't get enough of him at the Munich CS meetup. When the pub closed, we hunted down another, outlasting the trains and drinking cooling glühwein into the wee hours of the morning.

Marcus threw a lovely little dinner party on my next trip to Vienna and, although my time there was terribly short, we made good on our promises to each other. Marcus put on lederhosen (a style he makes look good!) and we sang songs from The Sound of Music, that most Austrian of musicals.

Thank you CS for connecting me with Marcus! He has a special place in my heart and I'm looking forward to our next encounter.

He is a very interesting man, knowing much about technic and also about his friends and people in general. As one of my best student friend i have learned much from him and i like discussing with him on sometimes very high levels.

 

Funny guy, good sense of humour, good taste in cookies ;) He is open and gives people a chance, he was really nice to me and came to my meeting although i'm totally new at CS at the moment! Thanks for the Glühwein and thanks for the fun :)

Marcus was a teammate at the London Calling Scavenger Hunt. He was great! Focused and clever . Marcus, I'm so sorry we only got 4th place! At least you were around to pick up our prizes. It was a good collaboration.

We only got to spend a little time with Marcus but enjoyed hanging out in the kitchen, eating cookies and talking with him. Seems like a stand-up fellow.

 

I met Marcus during the CS Turkish Bath meeting in my town Torino. Then he came to have lunch with other couchsurfers in my house.

Talking with Marcus I realized that he's VERY VERY involved in CS. In sharing and communicating our CS experiences I could notice that Marcus cares a lot about people's problems and CS future and always thinks about how improving CS, its transparency and its reliability. Marcus knows so well CS, that he can tell you lots of statistics and dates so that reasoning about CS was easier and even more interesting.

 

Marcus and I spent an afternoon in Leipzig chilling in a park, discussing CS... He seems like a very nice guy and is definitely dedicated to CS... A very attentive Ambassador. Also, we shared quite a few laughs about skillful dogs...

Marcus is enthusiastically fun. Very welcoming and open to talking about anything. We won't mention the London Beer Can Incident :)

 

Marcus e-mailed me out of the blue to see if I could host him. Since I live "near" Washington, D.C. but not "in" the city, I was surprised to get a request!

Marcus spent just one night with my family, and everybody loved him. My mom keeps saying she'll look him up if she's ever in Austria.. and who knows! But until then, he's more than welcome in our household any time.

Marcus is one seriously wacky Austrian. Mountains of energy and always talking or running around asking anyone ANYTHING however crazy, stupid or inane it may seem to the rest of the population. A person of few social limits and a huge amount of integrity i hope to see him again soon.

 

Marcus asked me to surf my couch when he was staying with a mutual friend. He stayed for the weekend while we actually happened to have a belgian ambassadors meeting. He was a great help to all of us. Fortunately, there was still some time left to show him around in Brussels.
Marcus is a friendly, charismatic bloke with a clear view on the world and a healthy dosis of idealism.
It was great to have him as a guest and I really hope we'll meet again.

 

Marcus gave his soul for the Collective. We didn't have the chance to talk a lot, but he is a very determined and dedicated person and really devoted to the Couchsurfing idea. I hope to meet him again and get to know him better!

Allthough he made quite an impression on me, I waited long to write this reference. Being at the Belgian Amb meeting, I enjoyed his company and help very much and would love to meet him again in the near future. He put an extra 'schwung' in our meeting, helped us out and shared lots of laughs, oh no, CREATED lots of laughs...I still hear them in my dreams sometimes... *sigh*

 

Marcus hosted us for two nights and showed us around in vienna - he really knew how to convince us of the beauty of the city. From his stay in Munich I already knew his outstanding cooking skills, but now I saw he's got great skills in lock picking, too. :-)

The picture of Marcus laying on the grass sipping coffee from a white plastic glas is one of my first memories from CS. And now i finally had the chance to meet him! The Black Biker arrived one sunny afternoon from another CS meeting, we enjoyed a dinner outside based on meat and the home running as many red lights as possible. The day after was Turkish Bath time, I arrived late and I found him singing along with all the group... getting along very well. He soon after said goodbye but it was not long because we met again few days after in London while it was Calling... always nice and good at heart, he has been a great benchmark in those frenetic days. Thank you very much Marcus for everything!

 

Marcus is a Couchsurfing Legend! He is kind, big hearted, full of love & life. He is an allrounder. There is nothing which he can't do - Am i not right guys??? He is doubtlessly trustable. Marcus contacted me via E-Mail and told me he was about to show up at my place in Leipzig. I was actually kinda surprised and happy. He arrived with his motorcycle near the end of his Euro-Trip:-) We did a small meeting with other CSers and I showed him my hometown. At night we went out and met soem crazy people on the street. "WWW.allestutmirweh.de:-D" Hes tayed another nigth and we did an interview with the radio. Generally we had a lot of cool discussions about CS and agree on a few issues. I met Marcus at London Calling - he is a cool guy and although our conversation was mainly on social matters or CS topics its plain to see he is a very sociable, friendly, open person whom I would be very happy to get to know more! From a CS perspective I can say I know him - now im looking forward to getting to know him as a friend someday!

 

Somehow I've started writing this text over and over again and always deleted it again, not being able to find the right words that would do justice to Marcus. Maybe it's the lack of vocabulary in the English language that stops me from writing a reference that suits an amazing boy/guy/man like Marcus (somehow he manages to keep in balace with those 3 aspects of manhood). Somewhere in the Stone Age we had a couple of mail conversations on Couchsrufing, the phylosophy behind it, things that could be accomplished with it and regularly I saw his head show up in all the different groups I was part of too but somehow we never got to the point of really meeting and having time to have a descent conversation until that one day in Brussels. There was a Belgian Ambassadors meeting planned and Marcus was staying with one of us and joined the meeting discussing all the possibilities and plans we had for CS Belgium. He was an amazing help both in understanding the structure of CS as for making us laugh once in a while. I'll definitly meet back up again with him somewhere in the future. (I just have to).

 

Marcus is a real couchsurfer. Great to talk to and surfs his life on his own nice way. See you around o/

Marcus = my CS-Host in Nov'06 and my CS-Guest in May'07 .... There starts the C-Surfing... It was my first trip to Vienna and Marcus was my first "CS-host". I really enjoyed my stay and thanks to Matrcus i learned a lot about CS hosting and guesting. He is just Great -- Marcus = CS, which is a part of his life and i'm really amazed by his dedication towards this project. Thanks a lot for inviting me to the Vienna CS meeting on 26/11 it was real fun.
And GREAT Marcus came to my place in Liege in May 2007 for 2 nights and it was fun. He eat so much that he had no space for tea even... ;) Those were the specialities of Liege :)

Marcus was one of the first person I met during first London Calling night and had such a nice impression. He is GREAT and a very humble person. Marcus and I spent the night at Alessandro´s house after an afternoon in Torino with Maria from Sweden and a perfect evening at the Turkish bath, with fellow couchsurfers, so I had the chance to figure out this guy. Well, I think everything I heard about him is true: Marcus is living CouchSurfing 24/7, always online answering to emails and helping people, so it´s not hard to believe he was actually one of the core members who restored the website after the crash and later on. When he´s not online, well, I see how he got along with just about anyone, always smiling and laughing and exchanging ideas. Very good encounter I want to repeat as soon as possible, also because I´m terribly sorry I couldn´t host him in the first place. Sure Marcus´ fame precedes him, I wish you will meet him sooner or later too: it´s not hard to simpatise with someone who needs a GPS even to go to the bathroom :D

 

Marcus is not simply participating in but living the couchsurfing project; you get this impression when you see his profile and even more when you meet him in person. Unfortunately I was not spontaneous enough to buy a helmet instantly and come to London with him...

Marcus is truly a person with the CS' spirit within. I'm glad I've met him in person, we sorted out a "last minute couch"!

 

Markus is a very good-natured and intelligent person, thus comes to know to people easily. He organized several (several? ;-) ) meetings, or rather initiates them to be organized *gg*, but that's a cool thing; read his book filled with entries written by the members of the meetings.
He's a homely, tasty food cooking and great cook. (But do NOT listen to him if he wants you to fill the extremely hot used oil into a pot with a rest of rice ;-)!)
I'm sure you will have a lot of fun and a great time with him. He has a lot of stories and jokes to tell (damn i love this joke about the Italian in the Hotel :) ), so you will not be bored accompanied by him.

Marcus is a experienced and weired couchsurfer. Once I took his guest to Bratislava and bringing them back I picked up my new guests from his place :-) He can bring almost anything he touches to life, things and stuff begin to talk!! If one has the possibility to stay with him or host him... you will have very nice time!!

 

Crazy story... long story.
It was not on purpose I met Marcus. I was meeting up again with some CS people who stayed at my place in Praha. All of us had a wonderful dinner at Marcus' place. For sure, he is a chef! :) I spent a great time with him. I hope he'll visit me soon in Praha and for sure I'll be back in Austria soon. We are neighbors... Markus, I promise to cook for you! thanks again for your generosity and don't change anything. I can't wait to meet up again with u.

I am so glad to have met Marcus, and that things worked out despite my short CS request. ; ) Marcus graciously opened his flat to three random guests for dinner, while our host took his guests to Bratislava. He is a fantastic cook and a wonderful person. You cannot help but laugh when you are around him, his energy seeps out into everyone near. We'll have chicken noodle soup next time we meet...unless there's still leftovers in Pawel's fridge. Enjoy!

Marcus opened a window for me. Because of him, I started to know many wonderful people in Vienna. He is the one of the best host that knows what traveler's need. He handed me a tourist map in Chinese, and a cell phone, with his number on the back, in case I get lost! Marcus, Danke!

 

Marcus was a great host, making me feel very welcome and generously sharing his thoughts on the couch surfing project. While we, unfortunately, didn't get around to cooking, we DID have some quality conversation, especially in regards to the possibility of a couch surfing musical at some point in the distant future.

 

I had the greatest time in Vienna so far and that's only because of Marcus showed me some greatest sights of it. We went on this hillside and it was perfect. As well his nudle soup was extra ordinery. Well, to sum this up; going to Vienna and not meeting Marcus is same as going to Egypt and not seeing the pyramids.

It was great to met him otherwise I wouldn't got known to couchSurfing.
I think we will see us on one of the next meetings.

Marcus is a great host! He was actually my first host, and because of him I can´t wait to couchsurf again these days... He´s very funny and friendly. It was great to meet him!! :))

In just 3 hours I learned a lot (not only about CS) from Marcus who was listening and answering to all my questions. I hope we'll meet again while creating a better CS (and world). UPDATE March 07: I surfed his couch now and all the good things you can read in other references about Marcus are true (and probably much more). UPDATE August 08: Now I was also happy to host Marcus, he's still a unique and great guy ;)

I have yet to find someone as enthusiastic and passionate about CouchSurfing as Marcus is. His passion about the project may come off as overbearing, but I haven't personally seen it. In fact, my experience as a guest in his home was most hospitable. He definitely is a good guide for new surfers.

 

I met Marcus at a Couchsurf meeting in NYC. Instead of my planned afternoon of clothes shopping, I opted to walk around the city with Marcus for a few hours after brunch. I'm glad I did because I learned a lot about the Couchsurfing mission, Vienna, and about his life in Austria. I hope he chooses to stay in the UES next time he comes into NY.

I could tell right away that Marcus is a great person. Edward, Marcus, and I had lunch at a really cool restuarant in Utah that has a mission to feed everyone whether or no they have money. You can pay what you feel the meal is worth or even work for an hour if you have no money. Hope to see you someday in Alaska or Austria.

 

I was glad Marcus visited and helped get the CS'ers around my area together on my birthday. He's a good and courteous guest!

Marcus is a cool guy, with a lot of interesting experiences. Not only that, but he's a big proponent of couchsurfing. A very friendly guy indeed.

"B" on Tour. Get him to make you the austrian dumplings for dessert some night. They were a major hit at the party we through in DC of couchsurfers. Nice to meet someone who's been organizing in a different place and share a few experiences and tricks along the way. I'll definately be seeing him in the next collective, whether it be in germany or perhaps in france.

 

When I saw Marcus, I could tell he wasn't American. He didn't have that "look," but he was fun to be around.

I will have to go to Austria to chill with him in Europe.

After a election party I met Marcus another time. Just for a coffee, but it was also quite nice.

what can i say about Markus, what is not allready said??? he is the coolest cs guy in vienna! very open-minded, communicative and friendly! hope to see him more often in the future to get to know him better! and he lives right next to my work, so i very often greet him in the morning but he is allways sleeping on the way to the underground, he does not notice me :)

Why my experience is "extremely postive"? Read the other references!!!
He cares a lot about the couchsurfing community and is the spine of the Austrian group. With some other organizers he called to a massive meeting in Vienna, which I was happy to attend. We got into personal contact relatively late - and I promise future surfers fun (he is the king of telling jokes) and dedication.

he is a strong cs promoter- if you ask him about cs, bring some time... he is a great host and I enjoyed the party in his place and he really loves to bring ppl together!!!

Marcus helped out in the setting up of the collective in Eisenstadt. I was just using the setup that he did to help spread the CS love.

I met Marcus when couchsurfing was bound to the ground. It seemed he was not willing to ever let it go.. and so his effords to help the community to remain looked to work out well!

 

Marcus is a lovely guest, even if he does make fun of me all the time about my "grammar issues." He was kind enough to cook dinner for me and another CSer after a long hard day at work/on the road, and to sleep on the floor to let another CSer have the futon. Feel free to come back anytime, m'dear!

 

With this man, I only had to open ears out wide and learn how to contribute to the CS project!

 

The idea machine! If you have an idea for Couchsurfing...chances are Marcus has already thought of it! His love and devotion for this project are without question and he spends every free minute working on how to make this project better.

Marcus was a good guest and a cool guy. Easy to talk to and get along with, very friendly. I enjoyed his Austrian cooking and having good discussions with him. I would recommend him as guest and I'm sure he's a good host too.

Me and my mate Anders met Marcus just before the first Stockholm CS meeting. We had a Halloween party, to which Marcus came with the most bone-chillingly creepy costume I've ever seen! Does he really work in prosthetics or human taxidermy?!? Marcus is the most dedicated couchsurfer junkie I have ever met. He live and breathes this project, and is a true asset for all of us, making the system a better place.

 

He seemed very enthusiastic about the couchsurfing idea!

one of my best friends!!! i know marcus since the physical examination for the military service. he borrowed me some money although we did'nt know each other! we did a lot of bicycletours together to italy, france, swiss, spain down to gibraltar) and spend a lot of time together in salzburg and vienna. he also lived in my flat in vienna for half a year while looking for a nice flat for himself. sometimes it was not very easy cause we both have some kind of pighead but we always came togehter again! he is one of the friends you can call at any time and he will help you! he is the most honest person i know!

 

The most informative guide yet I had on my travels. Interesting to hear him speaking about his recipes with so much delight to a really experienced chef (TallDave). Funny, and a possible subject for one or two of my films.

We didn't really COUCH-surf with Marcus, we just kinda' surfed, since we stayed at a hotel. But we spent the days together and had a great time! Marcus is both a really good guide with some great ideas - but also a wonderful person that we are so happy to have met (He's a bit crazy too, perfect!). He made us feel really welcome in both his home and in his home town and hopefully we will be able to return the favour one day.

 

when in wien.... Shag and I sped through central Europe, never spending enough time anywhere. Although we did stumble into the cozy home of Mr. Eder for a couple nights. Marcus has got a great setup for surfers. He whipped up some sleeping arrangements and a healthy meal in no time. Intelligent man with lots of ideas and alot to talk about, simple questions with complex answers...give yourself time to chat with this guy. He has such a big heart and his friends became our friends...He took us to breakfast at Peter and Ana's and to a birthday bbq where we threw the B, ate, smoked, talked and played some football barefoot....glad i didnt break a toe...cheers Marcus

80% Marcus! Marcus hosted me for two nights when I stayed in Vienna. He is so kind, friendly, interesting and has the biggest heart in the world! He truly makes you feel at home and clearly enjoys hosting people. His whole flat revolves around hosting people through couch surfing and he really made my stay as pleasant as it could have been. If you can stay with Marcus when you are in Vienna, DO IT! It will be one of your best couch surfing experiences. He also liked my shepherd's pie which makes him even cooler! What a guy! And ask him to drive you around on his motorcycle! But make sure the battery works perfectly or else you might end up looking like a biker in the subway...hahaha! I had a great time with Marcus!

Marcus was the real reason the collective in Eisenstadt happened. He pulled it off when most would have failed. Thanks again for everything in Wien. I will go out of my way to come visit you.

I'm sure Marcus is the Perfect host. He organized the Collective in Eisenstadt, so at its end (when I surfed his couch) he was very tired. Nice host! 1th visitation: Marcus has accommodated me for 2 nights . Marcus is a very good cook, only doesn't use bread enough, he should go and learn it in Czech:-). Really great person, maybe the youngest at heart I know. He is cheerful and still ready to joke. Marcus also arranged meeting with his friends, so we spent a lot of fun together. But most of time we ware arguing about politics and future of CouchSurfing - "It was so nice to stay and argue with Marcus!" - but everything with a smile and agreement in the end - I've never argued so productively before:-).
2nd visitation: I just got from the Slovak mountains "Mala Fatra". Marcus offered este-hilfe to my frostbits and helped me to accommodate to normal conditions (eg. out of mountains:-))

Marcus was an amazing host and I loved his delicious cooking, and his sense of humor.

 

Marcus is the best. I've never met anyone with more Couchsurfing spirit than him. He's funny, nice and knows a damn lot about travelling. Couchsurfing can be proud to have him as a really good organizer.

when we stopped by vienna on the way back from a trip to hungary, i thought we'd be finally be getting the chance to get to know him in person. as it turned out, things got even better; we got to know him as well as a great couple who hosted us. ;)

he came for lunch at our host's place on our last day, regaling all of us, or at the v. least me anyway, with stories of hitchhiking, making great friends while travelling and cooking for his hosts and having fun all the while. i wish we had more time to get to know him. as it turned out, we had to leave soon after lunch for our return trip back home. ah well, there is always a next time...so marcus, see ya again soon, either in darmstadt or in vienna! :)

Do you need a nice host????Take him!!!! I live upstairs.I nearly seehim every day.Sometimes we cook together or talk about god and the world!!!!He likes to get to know new people and I can say, he is a really good host. He plays with his guests, cooks, give them good tips and so on.

Saint Marcus! The patron Saint of Couchsurfing, Marcus welcomed us into his home, even when we arrived @ 8am....on a Saturday! ; )It was great to see him again, 2 years after our first meeting when he stayed with us in Brisbane, Australia (where Kangaroos are!). He is a "top man", a great tour guide and a even better chocolate conissuer. He introduced us to a handful of his MANY Couchsurfing contacts all of which embraced us as he had!
